big numbers.
He took office with a balanced budget, a social security trust fund in good shape, low unemployment and a good economy.
He left office with the worse recession since the great depression, mass unemployment, huge losses in personal assets and net worth, millions losing their homes, two unending wars yet here we are about to make the farthest move to the right in modern history. And almost half the population is cheering it on.
Every two years we get to make changes in government. The right has put huge amounts of energy in making sure the outcome of these elections works in their favor and even though the will of the majority is not represented by these outcomes the majority are left powerless in government.
This time the question is not are we hurting enough, the question is are we afraid enough. Are we afraid of losing the gains we have made in the past enough to want to hold on to them? The gains in civil rights, women's rights, gay rights, workers rights, personal rights, are on the ballet this year.
Half of the country is ok with taking your rights away. They will show up to vote because they are on a roll and want to keep pushing the country to the right.
I wonder if we are going to spend the next four months arguing about Bernie and the greens and 40 words and wypipo or are we going to help find ways to put the breaks on the move to the terrible future the right has in store for us?
Nothing is more important than we grab as much governmental power as we can this November.

(45,021 posts)Over the years I've seen very liberal family members (sister and mother in law) succumb to the right wing diet of fear, falsehoods, vindictiveness and bigotry. It was terrifying to witness. And they were absolutely convinced their 'facts' were right, no matter how ridiculous or easily disproved. It's a mass psychosis, a madness of the crowd. We seen this happen in history again and again and it does not end well. I don't know how we fix this.
