For me, it's family, my little doggie, walking, meditating and reading.

The dogs are soft, loving and warm. Taking care of them keeps me going.

(63,221 posts)I wish I could have one in my city apartment but i can't and also I don't have the money to take care of one the way I would want to (regular dog walker while I am working, doggie day care, vet bills) so I don't have one, but my sister has a beautiful Swiss Mountain Dog puppy up on the southern Maine coast and I often take the train up there to see them.
I am watching the pupper from July 13 through 17 and can't wait to spend that much time with her. My heart is just filled with love when I am with her, or with any dog really. They are the perfect cure for an aching heart!

(2,226 posts)But the talking heads make me sick. I grew af small lavender crop and am making crafts with it. It keeps my mind and hands occupied and you smell lavender the whole time you work with it. Lavender is prized for its relaxing and uplifting aromatic qualities .

Hopefully I won't inadvertently watch one with an apocalyptic surprise ending
My Cat Kids also bring me comfort when they allow me a break from being their version of Hazel

(6,535 posts)puts things in perspective for me.
It is incumbent upon us as decent human beings to do the best we can to work for good in whatever matters we are able to actually influence; it does absolutely no good to beat yourself up about things you have no control or influence over.
It comforts me to remember that nothing is permanent...this too shall pass.

(9,527 posts)I remember how far we've come as a society, how many lives are better today than they would have been 50 or 100 years ago. Yes, we still have to fight, but think of it like this. In 2004 a majority of Americans believed same sex marriage should be banned in the constitution. In 2006 voters in 7 states banned same sex marriage in state constitutions. In 2008 blue state California banned same sex marriage. In 2010 polls showed support for same sex marriage at 52%. In 2015, it became legal all over the country. We've changed for the better. Sure some want to take us backwards, but to an extent, that is just a reflection of how far we've come.

(13,485 posts)Every night I go to sleep listening to "The Ancient World" podcast. As I listen I realize that what we are going through now isn't nearly as bad as during the days of Ashurbonipal or the Roman Empire. So with those happy musings I fall asleep. Unfortunately, I eventually have to wake up.

I'll got to a committee meeting tomorrow. I hear there is going to be a food fight , but it is better than being depressed.
Saturday, I'll go to a Families Belong Together rally and then to the Pride Festival.

Well, that and my dogs, my friends and their dogs. (Got a visiting Viszla this week). I don't like to travel; for me the annoyances outweigh the benefits. Instead I immerse myself totally in local physical surroundings and become knowledgeable about the plants, climate, geology, wildlife and all that interesting stuff. I'm lucky cos I live on a wild, interesting and beautiful bit of coastline, so there is always something to focus on.
