Steve Schmidt attacks Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for dishonest progressivism and says its bad as Trumpism
He sayuz all the right things to make us croon, and then comes out with crap like this. I wouldn't trust him. Nothing wrong with healthcare for all and free college. At all. Don't let them gaslight you - making you think those ideas are crazy.
IMHO.

I'm not worried, I never thought that Steve Schmidt was going to be the savior of the Democratic Party or the Progressive movement.

(16,975 posts)He said you are not going to out lie Trump with lies about "dishonest progressivism." He also said that in context of the increased national debt and over promising.

I was told by a dear dear DUer to not hold a grudge for Steve and Wallace. I said it not a grudge. Its a memory of what they both said about Clinton.

(6,551 posts)Schmidt was a Republican. Don't expect him to support progressivism. Given his perspective and history, that's ridiculous.
Schmidt has been a leading critic of Trump and has done an outstanding job doing so.
Let's not firing squad every Trump critic who doesn't completely agree with progressives. He is an important ally.

(19,567 posts)I've been saying this since the beginning. Know them for what they are and welcome their work to feed the rift between the Republicans. Just don't let them feed the Rift between us. Remember, they were on team Not-a-Democrat before they were on team Not-Trump.
Be smart.

(11,744 posts)I like a crooner as much as anyone, but I feel no urge to sing or speak in a soft and sentimental way, which is what Crooning is.
Schmidt is a Republican. He backed McCain and thought it was a good idea to bring Sarah Palin into the national spotlight so while it was fine that he renounced Trump and the Republican party that backs him, he would go back in a heartbeat if say, Mitt Romney or GW Bush was in charge. Remember that.
I don't like the term "Free College" because nothing is free. The free public water that I can drink out of the fountain in the city park is not free. When I pay my taxes, I am paying my share of that water. When the man living on SSI buys a loaf of bread, he is paying his portion of that water. "Free College" sounds good, but it isn't accurate. Perhaps, "Tuition Free College" is a better way to say it. In some European countries, college is tuition free but you sign up to do civil service for a time after graduation.
Healthcare for all is certainly possible, but people also have to understand that it will have its benefits and its costs. Medicare overall is a really good system, but I work with people on Medicare and they are not always happy with the system.
Schmidt however, is talking out his ass, which he is prone to do. Progressives usually have ideas about how to pay for their plans. The Progressive Caucus puts out the "People's Budget" every year which is the only budget that shows balance and sustainability but no one ever pays attention to it. Trumpism and Progressivism are not even in the same universe.
