Minnesota's Occupy Homes organizer Anthony Newby will go to trial this Monday, August 6th St Paul,MN

(Anthony is a very compassionate respectful, intelligent and courageous activist, and the banks would love it if he went away)

Occupy Homes organizer Anthony Newby will go to trial this Monday, August 6th. He is wrongly facing assault charges following an event at a Freddie Mac attorney’s office in March.

Anthony was charged after an incident where a law firm employee charged into Anthony and others and lost her balance as a group of supporters gathered outside the firms office to request a meeting on behalf of Minneapolis homeowner Monique White, then facing imminent eviction at Freddie Mac’s behest.

This trial is part of an aggressive prosecution against Occupy Homes. It comes in the midst of pre-trial proceedings for many of the 37 supporters who were arrested defending the Cruz family home this spring. These charges all represent attacks by government entities on those working to prevent foreclosures and evictions in the Twin Cities.

Freddie Mac is a government-sponsored enterprise responsible for hundreds of thousands of foreclosures each year. Under the leadership of Ed DeMarco, it has defied the Obama administration and denied relief to 500,000 underwater homeowners. Freddie Mac has taken an uncompromising position on refusing to work with Occupy Homes, and we see this trial as a reprisal on organizers who have tried to hold Freddie Mac accountable for its role in the dispossession of so many homeowners.

"I've been a part of countless actions on behalf of Minnesota homeowners facing foreclosure. All of these actions were explicitly non-violent and were carried out with the purpose of producing a more just and equitable world,” Says Anthony. “To now be accused of assault is ridiculous, and I look forward to defending myself against these absurd allegations."

Were Anthony to be convicted of assault, it would be an egregious miscarriage of justice. It’s all too apparent that Freddie Mac’s attorney is willing to manipulate the facts and exploit a racist, unjust legal system in order to protect financial interests. While it’s not surprising, it's still sad and disgusting to see the legal system used as a means of intimidation.

Supporters will pack the courtroom this Monday to stand strong with Anthony as he goes to trial. He is innocent. We shall not be moved.

WHEN: August 6th, 8:30am,

WHERE: Ramsey County Courthouse at 15 East Kellogg Blvd St. Paul. (Check computer screens in Room 130 for courtroom.)

Call St. Paul City Attorney Sara Grewing to respectfully ask that she drop the assault charges against community organizer Anthony Newby because they represent an attempt by Freddie mac to halt community members from working to stop the foreclosure crisis and keep Minnesota families in their homes.

City Attorney Sara Grewing (651) 266-8710

drove people out of the parks they would just go away. I like this phase of OWS even better than the big rallies. This is what elected officials should be doing, keeping people in their homes and since they failed the people so spectacularly, I was really hoping last Fall that OWS would get involved in helping people themselves.

This is nothing more than intimidation. I hope the courtroom is packed and I will call and pass it on.

To punish those who fight back against Plutocrats, not to serve we the people.

sad.. they can harass you again and again by changing the date of the trial.

I hope they drop the charges soon. Too many homeowners need his help.. and we don't need him bogged down in a trial.
