Biden jokes he's 'not looking to live in the White House'

Former Vice President Joe Biden joked that he is “not looking to live in the White House” in an interview published Tuesday, hinting at a hesitance toward running for president in 2020 without closing the door on a bid.

“I'm not looking to live in the White House, I've seen it up close,” Biden told The Washington Post. "But all kidding aside, I don't know what I'm going to do."

The former vice president is regularly mentioned among the early favorites for the Democratic presidential nomination, alongside Sens. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Kamala Harris (D-Calf.), Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), plus longer-shot potential candidates such as Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu.

If he were to enter the 2020 race, Biden would do so with significant advantages, including strong name recognition and lingering popularity from his tenure in the Obama administration, plus his decades of experience in the Senate.

But Biden — who will be 77 by the time 2020 rolls around — would be the oldest potential candidate in the Democratic field, behind only Sanders. Either one of them would be the oldest major-party nominee ever if he won.
