General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWhen I argued in 2016 if for no other reason to vote for the Democratic nominee was the Supreme
Court, I was ridiculed and belittled by those who refused to vote for the Democratic nominee arguing that "it is always the same excuse, and it doesn't matter"

(26,060 posts)I BEGGED people to consider the entire federal bench and was mocked for it. Fuck them and I hope they suffer from both these disgusting rulings today.
Don't know about you, Leftie, but this was my second time at the SCOTUS ricdicule rodeo. First time was 2000 with Al gore. SCOTUS is the only chance we have to play the long game in our democracy. We like homeruns and touchdowns and slam dunks in the right fudging now.
You know who play the long game? Russia. They have divided the left.
leftynyc
(26,060 posts)have divided Americans in general. The SC (and the rest of the federal bench) has ALWAYS been my #1 issue - it's the ONLY thing that can't be undone and the ramifications are for decades. The shortsightedness of those who had a hissy fit because their candidate lost makes me far angrier than the republicans who are morons.

I wonder what his handle is on JPR?
His stupid article is full of mistakes:
From 1868-1885 (17 years) and from 1897-1913 (16 years) we had a Republican president. Some died in office, so they didn't finish their terms, but.......
We also had FDR who was elected for four-terms. Truman served almost two full terms.....(He wasn't eligible to run in 1952)
Anyway the rest of the article is full of sheet.....

I also mentioned all the other conservative judges who would be installed in lower courts, and all of the under assistants to the deputy directors of agencies X Y and Z who would be appointed to gut all the regulations. (17,493 posts)vote for Trump. Trump is not a true conservative by any means but he is putting conservative justices on the court.
The bottom line is that you were right. Elections do indeed matter.

(14,176 posts)On DU? That is what you implying.
No one 'ridiculed' or 'belittled' anyone on here for suggesting that the SCOTUS was the most, or a very, important reason to vote Democratic. And if anyone espoused in a post how they were NOT voting Democratic because.."it is always the same excuse, and it doesn't matter", they'd have been seen the door, as per the rules...and scurried off to the other site where that talk is accepted.
You are making a straw man argument to make yourself feel important. And encouraging others to "re-remember" the same thing. I am always amazed at how potent the power of suggestion is on this board sometimes.

(1,308 posts)Scotus lasts for years past whoever is president. It's more
important than the president. I don't care how stupid any
candidate wins even if it's a Democrat. Decades of decisions
are affected. Why don't people get it?
IronLionZion
(45,528 posts)and there would be daily purity purges urging us not to support Dems in the general election, especially moderates from red states, and of course our presidential nominee.
And we still see some of that nonsense here. It needs to be alerted on. Elections have consequences.
The dumbest DUers urged us to vote against Dems who voted for Bush's court appointees, regardless of them voting for Obama's appointees. This was even after the Supreme Court struck down all the laws against gay marriage, and upheld Obamacare mandate, and other stuff we can agree on.
ProfessorPlum
(11,276 posts)Because most on DU know better than to vote against the Democrat in a general election.
