I am wondering what I can do to help the Dems retake the house in November...

I live in a relatively blue area, so I don't figure I need to do much locally. But perhaps traveling to red districts in state and talking one on one with voters would help.

Thoughts?

Once you are connected, they can usually help to steer you where your efforts would be maximized. Don't discount the importance of participating in blue districts tho. Increasing voter participation will help both up ballot and down ballot.

We travelled from Illinois to work in Indiana. We went door-to-door in an area had Bush carried and Obama ended up carrying that county and the state by a narrow margin. We played a very small part in that but it made me feel good. The main point is lots of others did the same and it helped win a red state. So find some place where you are needed and get to work. (:

The VAN has really improved and now you can have an automated call list to call to GOTV for candidates in red districts

The best thing is to contact your local and ask them where you're needed. If a DUer is in your state and in a district that needs help maybe they could give you an update on the candidates, the issues of the area, the make up, etc.
