that we all just shrug and say, 'oh well, another month, another slaughter'?
It is increasingly clear that NOBODY in government is going to do ANYTHING to stop this madness, so, what the hell, looks like we just have to live with the horror and hope and pray that 'me and mine' are not randomly chosen to be gunned down.

(8,994 posts)American Exceptionalism CLEARLY states that when massacres happen to us, it is a tragedy, when it happens to pesky brown people overseas, it is the war on terror.

Surely some changed their tune after witnessing such horrors?

(23,156 posts)but I just want to hear some "all guns everywhere anytime are okay" person say something on the order of, "It's just fine with me that my six year old grandchild was murdered because I fully support the right of everyone to be armed."
I just wonder if those who support the current idiotic gun laws ever, ever lose someone to gun violence. And if they are simply okay with that.

(23,156 posts)clips that allow 30 or more shots. Maybe some of those shouldn't be legal.
We have some huge number of deaths every year from guns in this country. Other countries, which restrict gun ownership in sensible ways, don't have those deaths.
I just wish that the only people who got hurt in these various mass murder incidents were those, and only those who support unrestricted gun ownership.
Until you say and really mean it, It's okay if my child or grandchild or mother or brother or nephew, or any other close relative, is killed in these kinds of incidents, it's okay because everyone is entitled to assault weapons, then let's find a way to restrict some kinds of gun ownership.
I am so freaking tired of these things happening, and it's always treated as some kind of weird aberration, as if our gun laws have absolutely nothing to do with these things. Isn't it somewhat odd that these things don't happen in other countries?

(7,720 posts)has not been documented as used in a crime in the United States since the infamous 1997 North Hollywood bank robbery and shootout in which the only loss of life were the two bank robbers.
By the way, while of course these incidents are abhorrent, they do happen in other countries. Over 70 people lost their lives to a lunatic in Norway not long ago.

that is a non sequitur, one idea does not follow reasonably from the other
without decoration-
although these incidents are bad, they (also) happen in other countries
used this way, the first idea is insincere and the second is made stupid
bereft of a predicate, the last sentence would be neutral if it were not obscurantist,
legitimizing these otherwise foolish questions-
what made people lose their lives to breivik one day?
was he lunatic the previous day when people were not losing their lives to him?
was there some specific action on his part that made people lose their lives to him?
does the awesome power of lunacy make people lose their lives to its wielders?

(7,720 posts)was to a story about semi-auto rifles and the second did not mention the make of the rifle so it is impossible to be certain it really was an assault rifle. While any murders are of course abhorrent, most media and even law enforcement make mistakes in reporting the type of weapons involved.
I wish somebody had the answers to your questions.

The organized militia created by the Militia Act of 1903, which split from the 1792 Uniform Militia forces, and consist of State militia forces, notably the National Guard and the Naval Militia. The National Guard however, is not to be confused with the National Guard of the United States, which is a federally recognized reserve military force, although the two are linked.
The reserve militia or unorganized militia, also created by the Militia Act of 1903 which presently consist of every able-bodied man of at least 17 and under 45 years of age who are not members of the National Guard or Naval Militia.(that is, anyone who would be eligible for a draft). Former members of the armed forces up to age 65 are also considered part of the "unorganized militia" per Sec 313 Title 32 of the US Code.
