apathy is unbeleivable. Most people around me are not at all interested in politics, avoid news but I live in a bubble. Still I think other regions are even less politically involved than SF. I gurantee you if I tune out and cut off all news for 6 months I won’t notice a thing. I know that because I did it a year ago - it was the happiest time. People are sick of politics and may even avoid polling places in november.

Where would these protests and sit-ins occur? Where are the places that would be shut down? In cities. In very blue districts. All our outrage happens in places where we are preaching to the choir.

To make something big happen we would need to get Middle America to turn on their masters. That won't be easy to do as they are segregated from us geographically and socially. The Trump/Republican core gets their news from Fox and is 50+ miles from the nearest protest. Their social circles are just as insulated. It's easy for them to ignore what little daylight peeks through as the economy in rural areas is picking up after a long period of stagnation.

It would have to hit their daily lives to wake them up. The only thing I can imagine hitting that many all at once in a negative enough way is another great depression.

One of the things I do for work is drug screens for DOT and Federal employees.
I told my office manager the other day if I thought I could get away with it and it not cost HER anything, I wouldn't so much as answer the phone for them until every single one of those kids were put back into the arms of their parents where they belong. Fuck this government.
