My wife's coworker and her staunch right wing husband were over for Thanksgiving. This was back

when the campus cop at UC Davis pepper sprayed the demonstrating students sitting in a row. The video of that incident was being shown on cable news with about six of us watching.

The right wing husband broke out in a roar of laughter when he saw the kids getting pepper sprayed. He turn to the rest of us with a big grin thinking we all agreed with him. Nobody did. There was dead silence except for the tv as we all stared at him.

He felt uncomfortable the rest of the visit and they have never been back. I felt glad he was put in his place.

Today as I see the right wingers thrown out of restaurants I am glad again. I think we should all give the deplorables a ration of shit anytime we can. Especially when they are the minority in a situation.

It is time they understand how anti social being right wing is and that we won't tolerate them or play nice.

get little in return. My theory has always been others are innately polite and kind, and do not operate from a base vile level of humanity. Right wingers do. They are disgusting POS and need to have it thrown back in their faces.

or at least the behavior attributed to bullies. They are happy to attack and belittle others right up to the point where someone confronts them and it is then game over as they have had their whittle feelings hurt.

I would not necessarily state that "They are disgusting POS" as you have done, but their behavior certainly is unacceptable and needs to be confronted whenever possible.

By being polite and kind we have not made our point. We have made it look like their behavior is acceptable. It is not and never was. I am not in favor or rudeness or violence. But if you identify yourself as a racist, a liar or hell, a Trump supporter, I would consider you not welcome. I believe business owners are in their rights to politely ask someone who offends them with their character (or lack of it) to leave their facility. I would clap approval.

Right wingers think "freedom of religion" is a euphemism that really means they are allowed to mistreat or discriminate against others and can justify it with some selected quote from their bible.

When confronted with the concept that "freedom of religion" means ANY religion, they start to backtrack, and get all angry and violent (pseudo-Christians tend to be quick to anger, and lose their Jesus-taught tolerance and forgiveness in a big hurry). When the "freedom" to discriminate on "moral" grounds suddenly means the right to discriminate against THEM, suddenly they get Trump to tweet about dust on the walls.

With all the fabulous places to eat in DC, if Sanders drove 180 miles into the Virginia countryside, it was not for the dusty walls.

I have been aware of who and what they are since Eisenhower's MIC speech. It is frustrating to watch them get away with all of their underhandedness. More and more I see the lights coming on and the exits being blocked and the cockroaches are beginning to panic. ( Nothing against honest hardworking cockroaches )

I thought maybe I didn't read it the first time. Anyway, I perused a few posts about this and I see some people (am I allowed to write some people ? ) say it's divisive and others say it's not. I never heard the term before and I'm 71. If it comes back every so often, I guess I keep missing it. Some people think "wasup" sounds racist. Just saying.

are strengthened individually and as a group by reactions from those they see as their enemies.

At the same time, conventionalism and conformity are very important to them. They really need to believe they are mainstream and respectable, on the side of good. And so they do, btw.

A way of saying showing that most of us showing them disapproval is going to accomplish nothing but sticking a label on our own foreheads saying "I am on the side of evil and must be defeated." We will wear that label from then on, and everything we say will be rejected as a lie, influence zero at best.

However, when people they accept as their own, such as fellow conservatives and nonideological friends, express reservations and disapproval about events, that can have a very different result.

It's much the same for us with reasonable, non-authoritarian Republicans. Angry, aggressive demonstrations, and the people who behave that way, repel them. Even if they agree on the issue itself.

We need to have the self discipline to speak out reasonably against dangerous and even evil actions, mustering enough courteous social constraint to win the agreement and respect of those we share most values and goals with. We know we're doing okay when thoughtful conversation continues and that we're not when it breaks down.

To eat for thanksgiving...he was talking about how great Trump is. Retired Union guy all his working years. A few weeks ago he went on my Facebook and told me I’m fucking insane. Needless to say he will never be at my table ever again. And we have 6 more years before retirement. What a guy.... I got mine so screw you!

Appeasing a bully doesn’t soften their stance - they’ll just keep it up until they are met with clear opposition.

And forget the ‘this is why Trump won’ threats. They’re just manipulating the argument to stifle dissent. They need to be massively outnumbered at the polls.
