WaPo editorial board: Sarah Sanders 'should be allowed to eat dinner in peace'

BY MORGAN GSTALTER - 06/24/18 09:18 PM EDT

The Washington Post editorial board defended White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Sunday after she was kicked out of a Virginia restaurant.

The “never-at-rest social media” has blurred the lined of public and private life, the newspaper’s board wrote.

“It wasn’t the first time recently that strong political feelings have spilled into what used to be considered the private sphere,” the editorial board wrote. “We understand the strength of the feelings, but we don’t think the spilling is a healthy development.”

Earlier this week, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen’s dinner at a Mexican restaurant in Washington, D.C., was interrupted by protesters.

15. WaPo editors say that accepting incivility (gasp) is a "slippery slope." But that gets it exactly wrong. WE ARE ALREADY ON THE SLIPPERY SLOPE. It's a slope that leads to illiberalism, violence, & collapse. It's a slope greased accommodation & civility.

16. What the Red Hen owner (& others) are trying to do is jerk us awake, push of OFF the slippery slope. They're trying desperately to draw a line, to cease the slide. And every time they try -- even now, even to this day, even with toddlers in cages -- the MSM scolds them.

19. The WaPo editorial board, like the MSM establishment more generally, has been utterly fucking useless in slowing our slide to illiberalism. They've done nothing but obscure what's happening behind a veneer of Normal. They have failed. But for the luvagod ...

20. ... the very least they can do is refrain from concern trolling citizens who are (RIGHTLY) in a panic about the loss of their country. Maybe the agents of this cruelty, the ones lying on its behalf, should feel a little discomfort. There are worse things in the world. </fin>

I can't even believe Dems who are questioning Stephanie Wilkinson's right to ask SHS to leave her restaurant.

He didn't want to make a special order for them as he saw that as endorsing the event.

Huckaby didn't request anything special. She just wanted to be a customer like any other.

The baker comparison does not work.

If she asked them to cater a Trump event or write Trump on the potatoes with gravy, then it would be an apt comparison.

Being gay, or black or female isn't a choice. On the other hand, being a bigoted piece of shit human being like Sarah Huckabee Sanders is a choice. It's a choice she makes every single day she gets up and goes to work defending Donald Trump. She could make a different choice tomorrow. A gay person can't wake up and say "oh I won't be gay today".

SCOTUS opened this door, and now they need to close it.

If the baker can refuse to serve a customer whose beliefs and behavior he/she does not approve of then why wouldn't the restaurant owner be able to do the same? Equal protection.

And why couldn't the pizza delivery driver refuse to deliver to addresses he/she knows to be occupied by customers whose beliefs and behavior he/she does not approve of?

Welcome to the slippery slope, your Honors.

Incidentally, I would personally not protest outside the home of a public official as they did the other day to Nielsen.

Mon Jun 25, 2018, 02:23 AM
Jun 2018

The CON-controlled Congress hasn't done anything about it and doesn't seem inclined to start. They even have their own cable TV echo chambers to "kinda catapult the propaganda," as dubya once said. And on top of that, they also have a nitwit base that is proud of its intentional ignorance, eagerly and happily supporting it all.

There are no consequences for what they've done. Or - think of it another way. If all these scandals and this much treachery, deceit, corruption, malfeasance, deviousness, and just plain ol' theft, were being perpetrated by a Democratic administration, how would the republi-CONS react? How would they respond? How MANY different impeachment charges would they levy? If this were a Hillary Clinton administration, My GOD. They'd be building gallows all over the Washington Mall, so they could hang her and then cut her down and hang her all over again. Look how they obstructed and disrespected President Obama! If he'd been up to a tiny fraction of this load of shit, there would be a new prime time reality show: "Inquisition of the Week!"

I hope the GOP gets the snot beaten out of them in November. I hope they are roundly shamed. Humbled. Humiliated. I hope the Blue Wave is a freakin' Tsunami. A catastrophic setback. I hope it leaves such a stink that it takes them at least a couple of generations even to approach getting back on their feet. They have to be beaten badly to knock any sense back into them. This crowd has spent far too long in its bubble.

And if, in the meantime, there are many tiny little spurts of resistance, if they can't eat at a restaurant in peace, well, then so be it. Measly little home-made, civilian, citizen-driven consequences like that might have to do, until all these fiends are facing possible convictions and jail.
