Republican House Candidate in SC who defeated Mark Sanford, critically injured in car accident....

Katie Arrington, the Trump backed Republican who defeated Mark Sanford in the House Primary, has been critically injured in a car accident....

The 47-year-old member of the South Carolina House of Representatives was traveling with a friend to Hilton Head for a Saturday morning awards ceremony when their vehicle was struck by a wrong-way driver. That driver was killed, and the friend driving the car in which Arrington was a passenger also was injured.

Arrington suffered broken ribs, a fracture in her back and a collapsed artery in her leg, her campaign said on Twitter. She underwent surgery to remove part of her small intestine and a portion of her colon. She is expected to be hospitalized for at least the next two weeks, her campaign said, adding that she was listed in “critical but stable condition.”

I wonder how this affects Democrats chances for this seat during this difficult time.

Sometimes it seems to have a mind of its own.

I don't wish ill on anyone (other than war criminals Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld, whose lies have destroyed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people) and I hope she recovers quickly.

but never fully recover from this. The Dem candidate has suspended all campaigning. This district is one of the two “least red” of the six GOP districts.
There hasn’t been any polling since the accident.

This serious accident changes things. The recovery may take many moths.

At least 6 to 9 months. Broken ribs take months. Any exertion causes great pain. Spinal fractures are tricky because of the Central Nervous system. Bowel reconstruction takes months to recover from, depending on the severity. Colostomy bags might be required. Then there is the Physical Therapy to rebuild muscles and overall strength.

Katie Arrington may not be able to finish this campaign, let alone be able to start her term, if elected, depending on how serious her injuries are.

On the political side, do Republicans get to replace her? Or is the the official nominee? If it's the latter, I imagine her Democratic opponent essentially walks to victory now.

Teddy Kennedy was re-elected to the Senate while hospitalized for months with a broken back after a plane crash. If she is able and chooses to stay in the race, she could still win.

But I felt bad for him being basically purged for not being enough of a Trump butt licker.

Hope Dems can take the seat.
