"According to a person who was there, after some pleasantries about the view of Central Park, Don got straight to it."
"'So I believe you have some information for us?' he asked. Veselnitskaya began reading from prepared remarks about DNC donors the Ziff brothers, their alleged tax evasion, and the connection she saw between them and Putin critic Bill Browder ... Don tried to get the conversation back on track. So can you show us how does this money go to Hillary? two of the participants recall him asking."
"Don began to realize he wasn't going to be handed what he was hoping for. 'The light just went out in his eyes,' the participant told me recently. 'He was totally disinterested.'"
"'I think he regrets taking the meeting,' a source close to Don told me. 'Does he regret it because he thinks he did something wrong? No. He regrets it because it ended up causing a situation that wasted a lot of time and money.'"

(6,916 posts)Axios is capable of following the truth, at times.
But we should be careful with them.
They have EXTREME bothsidesism, trying to balance both sides and thus often leaning quite to the right.
Axils was founded by a former cofounder of Politico, VandeHei. Politico has done better recently, but in its early days it also bent toward the right.
Also, this story seems like it was fed to the pub by he Trump administration. If they were going to do that it makes sense to find a friendly but still mainstream pub.
Im skeptical about this story.

(6,916 posts)Axios doesnt make stuff up, but it tilts right.
Because its goal is not to be objective and truth-seeking.
Its goal is to be balanced.
Thats the problem that leads to bothsidesism.
As for this article, despite quotes from Ioffe (who is generally good), the axios presentation is biased by bothsidesism and lies by omission. (Should discuss the known spies at the meeting and what their goal would be: see if Trumpsters would take meeting, which alone is compromising; Manaforts strange notes from meeting, all the lies from Kushner and Jr about it; spies like Sipher saying this was a classic intel recruitment approach; etc)

Is this wasted money the figurative kind ala the bromide: "time equals money"?
Or is this actual money? Does this mean somebody got paid to hold this meeting? Who got paid?
