(5,559 posts)On most states income tax there is a question asking if you made any out of state purchases,and you are supposed to pay tax on them then.
So up until now it has been the honor system and almost no one has been paying. This ruling confirms that states have the power to shift the responsibility to the seller.
I am good with this, it lessens the disadvantage faced by brick and mortar stores.
Ginsburg joined the majority on the opinion which says a lot

amazon could just automatically take the taxes and pay them like they do her in California. It actually levels the playing field that everyone pays taxes on their purchases.
