We aren't the target audience, nor do our posts impact the narrative. That said, it's worth countering Trump's lies for the benefit of those who don't really know any better. This would be a full-time job. The DNC should hire someone to hold a daily press conference for the purpose of responding to Trump propaganda.
Something like this:
"As many of you are well aware, Donald Trump has a problem. He can't tell the truth. So, I'll be here every afternoon to set the record straight on the previous 24 hours. For instance, today Donald Trump and other Republicans stated that the economy was faltering under President Obama..."

(10,721 posts)Most so-called "independents," of course, are very partisan.
The DNC should definitely spend some time and money on outreach to people who never or almost never vote. I think something like I propose in the OP could get the attention of least some apolitical or apathetic people.
ProfessorGAC
(65,168 posts)Listen to CSPAN WJ. A good 50% (probably more) of those calling in on the independent line are RW partisan buffoons. They're probably libertarian or something, but they wouldn't vote for a D with a gun to their head.
They are people who aren't as clever as they think they are spouting the same nonsense but assuring themselves they're well informed and have a grasp on issues because they are "independent". It's just nonsense.
Garrett78
(10,721 posts)In fact, most of today's non-affiliated voters are more partisan than your average party-affiliated voter of past decades.

(9,897 posts)He knows that people opposed to him and his bullshit are not the target audience for the BS Tsunami, the idea is to spew so much of it that correcting the record becomes a full-time job and people begin to just accept the BS because the constant explanations of it starts to feel like something out of Macbeth ("Methinks the lady doth protest too much..."
This is a "debate tactic" employed often by Young-Earth Creationists whenever someone is dumb enough to lend them credibility by agreeing to a "debate" with them. They endlessly spew forth total bullshit, forcing the other person to spend all of their time refuting it and instead of offering up cogent arguments against the obvious bullshit, the entire affair devolves into nonsense.
Trump is no different than an excremental worm like Sye Ten Bruggencate or Eric Hovind or any of the rest of their ilk...when it comes to rational thought and legitimate argumentation, none of them are interested in anything more than a massive poo-flinging contest and they bring extra poo to the proceedings...

(68,667 posts)My youngest has suffered with depression. We almost lost her. She was put on the wrong drug by a well meaning doctor and had a terrible reaction...abilify...they combine it with other drugs to treat depression-it was developed for Schizophrenia...she ended up hospitalized. She spent a couple of weeks there in order to get her off that medicine and find a different medicine and stabilize her. And it was a year before when I looked into her eyes. I saw my daughter looking back. I can't tell you how terrifying it was. These drugs change brain chemistry and these kids will suffer the rest of their lives...these monsters need to be sent to the Hague and should be charged with crimes against humanity.
bdamomma
(63,922 posts)Psychiatric drugs can be good and bad to treat a specific psychiatric condition. I am glad your daughter is ok. But these poor children getting drugged up this is abuse. This has been awful, for them these children being ripped from their parents or moms. We must not let this go. We have a Congress that doesn't do anything and I can't understand how his supporters agree to this. They just don't believe this jerk can do no wrong.
One thing I heard yesterday from a tRump supporter was that she was blaming the mothers for bringing their kids over for asylum if they knew it would be dangerous for their kids, but they are getting away from Honduras due to unspeakable crimes and just want to live in a safe environment. If only these tRump supporters faced the same challenges as these families have they would have a different tune. But who knows those who condemn these migrants are sealing their fate, there is such a thing as karma.
Sorry just venting.

(10,839 posts)I picked up Scarborough this morning. He stated that the whole theatrical immigration reversal and yesterday's EO was because the issue had only a 17% approval. 17%! They are the diehards but they can't save the Monsters come November.
And if the economy sinks with all these tariffs and the political chaos, the Trumpster and his GOP enablers will be tarred and feathered.
Garrett78
(10,721 posts)Republicans hope to minimize the losses in November. Historically, mid-terms have very low turnout and the re-election rate for incumbents is incredibly high (over 80% for Senators and over 90% for Representatives). And then there's voter suppression, plus Russia, plus an irresponsible media. Finally, Trump's frothing-at-the-mouth base will vote. Republicans are counting on all of that to help them maintain a majority, at least in the Senate.
We must do all we can to maximize Democratic wins and Republican losses (in 2018 and 2020). What I propose in the OP could potentially help do just that.
Trump lies every time he speaks, and I'd love for there to be someone countering each lie at a daily press conference.
peggysue2
(10,839 posts)any of those points. Yes, we need to maximize our turnout because the trolls and bots are beginning to swarm again--anything to twist perception--and I think you're right about another attempt to tamper with the vote itself. The press needs to play its part to underscore the serial lying and disinformation. They're getting better but they still fall into the 'both sides are equivalent' yada, yada nonsense. Just this week, it was reported that the NYT pulled an interview with Miller, who had second thoughts and threatened to cut off access. That has to stop.
We agree. What astounded me was that the Trumpster would continue the madness earlier this week for a lousy 17% fringe approval vote.

The disconnect between policy and those responsible for said policy is depressing.
Anyway, Trump maintains an approval rating north of 40%. We live in a very sick society.

(10,839 posts)Did you catch the woman at the Minnesota rally crying, barely able to catch her breath because she was upset about . . .frigging Donald Trump?
"He's tried so hard,' she sputtered between sobs.
These are the very same voters who believe the pictures and audio tapes of the children are fake. And even if these Trump supporters accept the validity of what's happening, they blame the parents. The children are simply collateral damage.
Yes, sick. Also very vulnerable to propaganda.

THIS is the halmark of fascism - where people need to sanitize THEIR complicity for what is going on.

(10,839 posts)All the theatrics was a stunt, a way to deflate the horrific PR. The Trumpster has given the Pentagon the orders to prepare facilities for 20,000 children.
This isn't over by a long shot. There's even an attempt to unwind the image power of the two-year old in her little red sneakers. She and her mother are okay, they said. They were not separated, yada, yada.
Yet the symbol, the image persists and has found its way around the world.

Garrett78
(10,721 posts)Will it? Probably not, given who is in power.
The EO, however, does nothing for those already separated.
And the EO violates the Flores Settlement, which means a court will have to amend Flores or Congress will have to override Flores. Or who knows. We could see expedited deportations with due process out the window.

(10,721 posts)...there's still a tendency to promote false equivalencies. And a reluctance to label facts as facts and lies as lies. Every statement is supposedly an equally valid opinion.
I think that's due to not wanting to piss off advertisers and viewers, but also because the "liberal media" narrative has been allowed to dominate for several decades with little pushback.

They're trained to accept anything he claims or says is right , and everything everyone else claims is wrong, and what is really bad is he has them believing good is evil , and evil is good.
