I don't know if I got the number here or from another forum. I left a message on the public comment line this afternoon. Here's what I said:
No administration lasts forever. For those of you at DHS in appointed positions, good luck getting a job in the private sector with this work experience - specifically abusing vulnerable children for political gain - on your resume. It might not be the next job you don't get but - mark my words - this will come back to haunt you. The damage to your career prospects is irreversible.
A special shout out to Secretary Nielsen. You will never escape the taint of these events. Never. You will be forever linked to this inhumane policy because you were the one yammering on about "enforcing the laws" and propping up that malignant narcissist occupying the Oval Office ON CAMERA. No ma'am. This is going to stick with you beyond even your natural life. The journalist who writes your obituary will likely mention it in the lead paragraph. Nothing you will ever do can repair your sullied reputation. Here's another thing. Once this administration is confined to the dung heap of history - your employment prospects have been greatly diminished. Not much of a call for evil doers. Speaking engagements? Get real. Who is going to hire you for the lecture circuit? Come hear the driving force behind the policy of traumatizing and abusing young children. Not exactly a draw. You are damaged by the damage you caused. Oh, and that jerk you serve so obediently threw you under the bus.

(1,035 posts)Nielsen was the face of this travesty trying to sell this turd to the public. All the "enforce the law" and this isn't a policy. blah, blah, blah.

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, who on Sunday and Monday insisted that this wasn't an actual policy and that the administration's hands are tied, will now have to untie them as the White House will reverse the supposedly nonexistent policy. Amid an outcry from Senate Republicans and an emerging promise to fix the problem themselves just as the White House had demanded the Trump administration has drafted an executive action to change the policy and keep families united.
It's at once an admission that the politics of the issue had gotten out of hand and that the administration's arguments were completely dishonest. Virtually everything it said about the policy is tossed aside with this executive action. It's the political equivalent of waving the white flag and the legal equivalent of confessing to making false statements. Rather than letting Congress rebuke it, the White House is rebuking itself and trying to save some face.

(37,428 posts)They may not be all that concerned about being associated with these events. These events are not completely unlike what they signed up for.
As far as ICE and the Border Patrol, this goes double.

(37,428 posts)I've always thought that the abuses occurring under a Trump regime would be valued not for their own sake, but as practice for when the Emperor needs some really bad shit done.
Same way Russian bribes and blackmail have worked on him.

(1,035 posts)Those are the ones I'm targeting with this message. Former U.S. Attorney Generals (think Eric Holder) typically have their pick of law firm partnerships once they leave office. Former AG John Mitchell was welcomed back at his old firm even when he was expected to be indicted during the Watergate era. Fast forward to former AG Alberto Gonzalez. After he resigned from the Bush Administration, the job offers from law firms were nil. Nada. Gonzalez is now the dean at a crappy law school in TN.
Former DHS Secretaries also manage to land into high paying positions after leaving prior administrations. I believe Nielsen and other high ranking DHS officials will not find a friendly job market.
