(45,021 posts)How about calling for an end to this monstrous Trump administration. Period.
We need to hear actual calls for his resignation. It's way past time and
this latest fiasco only proves it. Things will get worse unless something is done.

(15,355 posts)I don't know what motivates them (the RW) to promote such hatred and disdain for civility.
But school boards and select boards and state legislatures and federal positions have been under a relentless attack from something/someone that doesn't want democracy. It started 40-50 years ago but the tempo is much, much stronger in the last 8-10 years.
Dump and his cabinet and known advisers aren't smart enough to pull this off by themselves. They're just hiding the real underlying manipulation. US/foreign/multi-national based? Someone must know.

(206,073 posts)Some more recently than others, but none of us would be here if someone didn't have the courage to come here and start a new life. In my case, it was maternal grandparents and paternal great grandparents. I can't help wondering if they'd be welcome here today.

(206,073 posts)There is no one in this country who is here now that didn't come from immigrants. It seems like each new wave of immigrants is initially unwelcome which is a hypocritical shame! How soon people forget. I don't. My mother was born here, but her first language was not English. And the Trump administration seems oblivious to who the nazis actually were.

(129,543 posts)OR enslaved Africans dragged kicking and screaming here in chains. Slavery was NOT "immigration". It was human trafficking and that time period when this trafficking occurred is commonly called "The Middle Passage".
My ancestors experienced a HORRIBLE life here and as the generations progressed, after "breeding" between different African ethnic groups and the slave masters and/or their (mostly Irish and many indentured) overseers, we have no idea where on the African continent we originated. Everything was taken from us - names, religions, languages, and cultures, and we have spent 400 years trying to piece it back together, which has often resulted in a mish mash of "Americanized African culture".
My ancestors did NOT choose to come here and their descendants (including me) are STILL fighting for that "better life" now that we ARE here. WE know what this is about with these poor Central Americans - children separated and families in anguish. Hell, millions of AA ancestors were bred like farm animals, with husbands and wives (or partners) and children separated, branded or re-branded, and sold to various plantations - forced to work the fields to "make America great" for hundreds of years with no pay, and with only some abolitionists trying to speak out against it like you see many Americans doing today for these poor families.

(9,426 posts)I do wonder about something, though. Mexico has strict immigration laws. Supposedly, anyone entering their border is returned home. How did these thousands of people with small kids, manage to get through, travel the length of Mexico, and end up being USA's problem? Was this planned? Is this done to shame the US president? He does not feel shame about anything so citizens will bear that.
BumRushDaShow
(129,543 posts)they do these "caravans" every year. I.e., since the U.S. DOES (or at least claimed to) take "immigrants" who were fleeing persecution from their home countries and are seeking asylum, I believe Mexico allowed those who purportedly fit that criteria, to travel through its country to the border during a certain time period. Many of them are actually granted asylum in Mexico.
This is the group that sponsors them - http://www.pueblosinfronteras.org/refugee_caravan_2017.html
The caravan
The caravan is a Central American migrant refugee group being helped by Pueblo Sin Fronteras, an organization that has provided humanitarian aid "to migrants and refugees on the move" for about 15 years, according to its website.
"Our dream is to build solidarity bridges among peoples and turndown border walls imposed by greed," the site reads. Pueblos Sin Fronteras, or "people without borders," did not immediately respond to CBS News for comment.
The group is composed of about 1,100 Central Americans who are mainly from Honduras, where living conditions are desperate for most of the population. Two-thirds live in poverty, the country suffers from the worst inequality in Latin America and among the worst in the world, according to the World Bank. Honduras is also plagued by rampant crime, with one of the highest murder rates in the world.
With some on foot and others by vehicle, the migrant caravan began its journey on March 25 from the southernmost tip of Mexico and marched north, although most planned to try to stay in Mexico. In fact, one of the caravan's organizers, Mexico director of Pueblo Sin Fronteras Irineo Mujica, told the BBC that he estimates that fewer than 100 marchers would attempt to cross into the United States.

None of my grandparents spoke English and my paternal grandfather hit New York with $4.00 in his pocket. None of them came here with any of the "assets" that bloviating ignoramus deems worthy. Just a desire to work hard and build a better life for themselves and their future families, just like today's immigrants. I'm sure all of them would have been denied entry today.

Yes, that's trashing our leadership for somehow neglecting to do something that they can't do as per OUR CONSTITUTION.
In what universe do a minority in congress get to impeach?
Please let me know, so I can join you there.

(24,123 posts)I would never criticize our leadership failing to do something that's virtually impossible, though CALLING for tRump's impeachment, like many Democrats have done, is totally justified. Are they trashing their fellow Democrats in leadership by doing so?? (Show me where you said that.)
What riles me ehrnst is that you ALWAYS assume the worst about me, never once giving me the benefit of the doubt. Making up positions I've never taken is particularly aggravating... if it happened occasionally, okay, I could write that off as an honest misunderstanding.
I'm begging you to please put me on ignore... I promise I won't be offended.

(32,640 posts)Not what you replied to.
And you admit it right here:
I understand that you would be humiliated by my pointing out what you actually said, especially about others here on DU, but I thought you had the guts to admit it.
I don't "assume the worst," I take you at your word and reply to those words. If that's what you call "the worst" that's your problem, not mine. The "benefit of the doubt" doesn't = ignoring your words, nor ignoring your denials of such.
You don't need to "beg" to put me on ignore. If my actual reading of your words triggers you, then the ignore feature is yours to use.
The choice is yours.

Screeching that our Dem leadership DEMAND something NOW that pointless and futile, simply because we want some "validation" doesn't help. Did 60+ votes for "repeal and replace" while Obama was accomplish anything but mockery at their cluelessnes?
And do we really want to energize his base to get to the polls before we can actually do something?
Think about it. That's not "political expediency," that's called understanding the freaking reality of the situation. Do some homework.
Who here on DU are you trashing when you accuse "some here say we should soft-pedal talk of impeachment for political expediency"?
Or are you going to backpedal again?
This isn't about YOU, and YOUR validation. This is about the fucking future of civilization. If you don't trust Democratic leadership, get on over to JPR.

(24,324 posts)he had no idea how this would land on the US population. The PR and optics of this got businesses (airlines) to boycott the policy, millionaires to donate money to Dem campaigns, local news stations to wake up, GOP politicians to finally stand up, religious leaders to draw the line with GOP policies, the Pope, world leaders and the UN to voice condemnations, etc. Finally, the Resistance with the usual protesters, news stations and Dem politicians got some support. (32,640 posts)One needs a majority in Congress to Impeach, according to the Constitution. We DO NOT HAVE THAT.
Why should be be energizing his base to come out in November to protect him from that.
Screaming that they do this now is as pointless as demanding that our leaders get Secret Service to escort him to jail.
While a satisfying fantasy, we are not owed that kind of futile, pointless action on the part of people we elected to BE SMART AND EFFECTIVE.

This policy hearkens back to the worst days of our country's history: Japanese children imprisoned w/their parents in World War II-era detention camps. History will judge us harshly if we permit this inhumane&immoral policy to be carried out without our protest&opposition.

(82,849 posts)The latest executive order was promulgated intentionally to be against the law and to impose wholly unacceptable conditions under the Consent Decree that came out of the Flores case.
Naturally, congressional Democrats object because they respect the rule of law. Trump, who will be joined by many of the more sycophantic congressional Republicans, will whine about obstruction by the Democrats, which the popular media will report uncritically. Fox will run far ahead of the rest of the media in echoing and amplifying Trump's cynical whining, trying to make it sound legitimate.
Then comes the federal lawsuit seeking to invalidate Trump's imperial fiat. More whining, more uncritical reporting, more amplification from Fox. Polls will show 45% of Americans will buy the Trumpian bullshit.
Our work isn't done. It's never done. Keep after it. And remember: Some of these families that have been broken up in the last two months will never see each other again, thanks to President Trump.
