(26,295 posts)I wish that every tear shed over this horrible situation would sting like battery acid on trump*'s soul. Trouble is, I seriously doubt he has one.

(12,595 posts)I was going to say "reported," but these reporter-mothers were pissed, and they weren't afraid to let it show. Lawrence O'Donnell, who Rachel had tearfully handed off the story to, just let the reporters rant, knowing it was the best way to tell the story of the incarcerated babies.

Ive never seen Lawrence look so grim when the screen split to show them both. He picked up the story like the consummate pro he is. And during his show he let the women say their tearful, enraged piece. And the last word was a Mexican American church Deacon who spoke of humanity and the need for love in our hearts to overcome this. Lawrence had asked him what he would say to Trump.

The last few days, I've noticed quite a few newscasters/commentators looking unusually grim and subdued. Some I was sure were on the brink of tears.

(7,434 posts)His daughters can't help him. His wife can't help him. Putin IS helping him-- maintain his evilness. And that's where Trumpy is. He's with evil. Not necessarily "evil-doers". He's with the spirit of evil. So now he signs an E.O. to stop the separations, but MAINTAINS the zero tolerance policy, which means that he'll ignore pleas for sanctuary from refugees. He'll STILL arrest refugees and ignore their petitions. He STILL views them as animals who are infesting the nation. He only relented on pleas to end the separation policy because he was losing his political base, and quickly. It was not because he understood that he was acting immorally. He doesn't care about morality.

(47,613 posts)that he will follow up on his promise. What he says and what he does are often quite different. Meanwhile, there are thousands of children who are displaced and traumatized. It is entirely possible that some will never be reunited with their families, as it doesn't appear that anyone was keeping accurate paperwork. It has been suggested that the government never intended to reunited them.
More stories will come out about the treatment of these children and being reporters and politicians were banned from many facilities, the stories are bound to be very disturbing. No matter what Trump does, it could be too late to redeem himself or DHS or the DOJ.

Just imagine how these parents and children feel if reporters cant even report the situation without breaking down.
And this was done in our names. Silence is approval. Speak up when there is wrong doing. Enough loud voices are effective. tRump signed the executive order after it was clear he was losing on this issue.

Those are headlines that people would have associated with other countries. In addition, just about everyone would have expected the United States of America to lead the charge to end such a policy.

(16,887 posts)I was in transit in Frankfurt airport and had to buy something in an airport store. The sales clerk was an immigrant with a middle eastern name on his name lapel. He asked me simply how I felt as an American about what Trump is doing to immigrants and the children in camps. I had just learned the news too after reading it online and I looked at the man and I broke down with tears rolling my cheeks saying how sorry I am and this is not my country. It came out of no where I was sobbing. The man took my hand and try to calm and soothe me. I told him I am in shock and am scared and so worried what is happening. He told me he was Egyptian and came to Germany 15 years ago and was married to a German woman and his children born in Germany. He said that there was beginning to be more and more xenophobia in Germany too, but clearly not what is happening in US and with what Trump is doing. But he had a very sad look in his eyes and said America had always been the symbol of hope and human rights and opportunity and what was right. When I told him the news of the tender age Camps he shook his head and said I cant belive this - America?....
Yes, America.....my America...and I stood there sobbing.....
I feel what Rachel felt at that moment - its overwhelming and its a normal response to something so horrible....

(4,168 posts)If Trump was afraid of Maddow, he would attack her, viciously. Instead he ignores her completely.
I'm guessing the reason is that he just doesn't "get" her. She's a middle-aged gay woman who doesn't look or dress like the women Trump finds appealing. Her news show opens with long, discursive, historically-based monologues and are intentionally stripped of hyperbole. She doesn't rely on quick, snide sound-bytes that can be refuted by short Tweets. I doubt Trump could last more than 2-3 minutes watching her show. His attention would almost immediately wander away because her attacks on him are oblique or restrained enough that he wouldn't even register them.
All the reasons I admire Rachel Maddow are the same reasons Trump would not even see her as relevant to him.
worstexever
(265 posts)She is thorough and goes in depth and he wouldn't be able to pay attention long enough to get what she's saying. And her show doesn't lend itself to those 15 second or less video clips he likes to use. So, I think you're right. She's out of his league. Way too smart for him.
