CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) — FBI agents have arrested West Virginia Supreme Court Justice Allen Loughry and taken him to the federal courthouse in Charleston to face a 22-count federal indictment.

U.S. Attorney Mike Stuart, from the Southern District of West Virginia, said Wednesday that Loughry is charged with 16 counts of mail fraud, two counts of wire fraud, one count of witness tampering and three counts of making false statements to a federal agent.

Loughry was suspended over allegations he repeatedly lied about using his office for personal gain. However, Stuart says they do not expect the justice to be detained pending trial.

The state Judicial Investigation Commission filed a 32-count complaint alleging he "made false statements" and tried to deceive others about his office renovation, a federal subpoena, the moving of furniture from his Capitol office to his home and his improper personal use of state vehicles.

HE IS A REPUBLICAN, OF COURSE!

His previous claim to fame, before his election to the WV supreme court in 2012, was authoring a book on political corruption in West Virginia, titled Don't Buy Another Vote, I Won't Pay for a Landslide: The Sordid and Continuing History of Political Corruption in West Virginia.

From Wikipedia:

In 2006, Loughry published Don't Buy Another Vote, I Won't Pay for a Landslide: The Sordid and Continuing History of Political Corruption in West Virginia. The publication was the result of ten years of research that began as his doctoral thesis at American University. It covers corruption in West Virginia from 1861, before statehood, through 2006 and includes topics such as John F. Kennedy's 1960 Primary Election, the Hatfields and McCoys, Mary Harris Jones, the Battle of Blair Mountain, gambling, sex scandals, and the author's road map to reform. Forewords were written by Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and former Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV). It was the only foreword Sen. Byrd wrote for any book.

I think he should update the book with a final chapter on Hubris. Maybe it will help pay his legal bills!
