If Trump wanted to get rid of Sessions, surely NOW is the time ?

Trump has, up to now, held back from sacking Sessions for fear of Congressional Republicans, but the pushback from Sessions over what he's doing to those kids, may provide Trump with the cover he's looking for. Trump, as he does, could paint a picture that this was all little Jeff's work and he is personally sickened by it, so much so that he had no other choice but to sack him. That opens up the spot for AG Pruitt.

Well he'd want to tread fairly lightly. The bigger splash he makes, the easier it will be to sack him OnDoutside Jun 2018 #2
Was this a plan? Orsino Jun 2018 #3
I don't want to give them credit for something that devious, but I think it certainly provides Trump OnDoutside Jun 2018 #4
He's been out there blaming Nancy Pelosi, but he could certainly flip-flop. n/t Orsino Jun 2018 #6
Trump started the policy so no he can't fire Session for that. Demsrule86 Jun 2018 #5
The same Trump who is currently blaming the Democrats for the policy ???? Anything is possible ! OnDoutside Jun 2018 #7
No since the rightwing base is OK with Sessions' cruel policies wishstar Jun 2018 #8
That's as of now, but once it blows up in his face, he has a track record of dumping the blame on OnDoutside Jun 2018 #9
But then he would have to admit that he lied when he said it was the Democrats fault MiniMe Jun 2018 #10
Where have you been for the last 2 years ??? ;) Trump doesn't, and doesn't have to, admit anything. OnDoutside Jun 2018 #11
Why would he? Sessions is a resounding success story... Wounded Bear Jun 2018 #12
There's a very simple answer to that. If he sacks Sessions and selects Pruitt, or some other loon OnDoutside Jun 2018 #13
I suspect Pruitt would not survive another Senate confirmation hearing... Wounded Bear Jun 2018 #14
I think we've been considerably surprised who Republicans will vote through. OnDoutside Jun 2018 #15

Trump & Co. strategy in this whole debacle is very simple- they know it keeps most of their racist anti-immigrant base happy but to insure they don't lose any of his core supporters, Trump thinks blaming Democrats placates his supporters who don't like the policy.

He knows his base is a combination of racist, anti-immigrant and/or stupid people who are easily duped.

others and running. He could say white is black and those fools will believe him. They not going to vary from him now, and photos of crying kids is not a winning strategy.

He's destroyed as much of the government as anybody else besides Pruitt.

Pay no attention to what he says. He's fucking thrilled with Sessions' job performance. And his base loves the shit out of Sessions. Why wouldn't they? Sessions is "just a good ole boy" doing Gawd's work.

like Miller for example, then they wouldn't be recused from the Russia investigation and could set about dismantling/starving the Mueller investigation. People keep on forgetting that his No 1 goal is himself. No 2 is anything else that helps No 1. As much as he's happy for Sessions to inflict misery on the immigrants, if the ratings start going down because of this, he'll happily blame anyone else, including Beauregard.
