So many people have lost their homes.
What is their lunatic senator Inhofe saying about climate change these days?
They should recall that scumbag ReTHUG

Just some spoilers from the script writers.

(53,410 posts)We really need to do something to learn to live with the weather consequences of global warming. I don't think we can do much to stop it. But we can start to do things so we can live with it as we stop contributing more poison into the atmosphere.

(51,666 posts)we have already done, and stop doing more damage. But regardless, we will still need to find a way to cope with the new normal.
If we do nothing to mitigate, I believe the human race will go extinct. If we make an effort to mitigate, we might survive, though in greatly diminished style.

(53,410 posts)We definitely have a new normal to deal with and that new normal is going to get more extreme every year.

(19,243 posts)There really is no other choice. Whether we do it in an orderly, intelligent fashion, or simply let people pack up their cars and abandon their homes like 21st century Okies, if this is an indication of the "New Normal" of global warming, the center of the US will depopulate. You can't justify maintaining large population centers there when droughts are destroying their agricultural exports and threatening water supplies.

(53,410 posts)We have to wait and see if the changes we see now are permanent, but if they are that's millions of people affected.
What a nightmare!

(5,178 posts)Nothing we do is for the sake of tomorrow and it only shows signs of increasing. We know what is causing it and we know the kind of steps that could be taken to not only slow it down but reverse it.
They are terrible steps. It would send the world into an economic tailspin without recovery for decades.
That brings us to the idea of sacrifice. Are we as a generation willing to sacrifice some luxury and happiness now for the betterment of the world? Will we fight to make sure the kid born tomorrow has a little brighter future than the current trajectory we are on? Are we willing to divest ourselves of the world markets? To stop clogging our air with pollution? To stop deforestation and environmental destruction for quick bucks now?
Not a chance. It will not end until it runs out of gas or we run out of air.
It cannot be changed. The only change that can happen is individually. Maybe, just maybe, if enough people develop a conscience and work to actually make the world better it can spark a tiny blaze that would carry enough weight to face off against the merchants of death and those who would mortgage every living things future for a piece of the profits.
"Lost causes are the only ones worth fighting for."

(21,925 posts)I spent two years in Arkansas right across the river from Oklahoma when I was a kid and although it got hot in summertime I don't think it ever got that hot.
lunatica
(53,410 posts)I haven't been following this except on DU, but it seems to me that we should be hearing a lot more about people dying from the effects of this kind of heat going on for so long. Is there anyone counting the dead? I've heard of one mailman dying and a few dogs who were left in cars dying.

(27,247 posts)And what river would that be that you can look out across and see Oklahoma from the Arkansas side?
aint_no_life_nowhere
(21,925 posts)The Arkansas River separates Arkansas from Oklahoma at Fort Smith (where I lived) and Moffett. In fact, way back when, my grandmother was named Queen of the bridge that separates the two sides when it was inaugurated. I don't remember if you can actually see across to Oklahoma (I never wrote that); it was a long, long time ago when I was a kid.

(27,247 posts)Being a native Arkansan, but not a native of Fort Smith, it just sounded odd to me to hear about being in Arkansas and looking across the river to Oklahoma.

We have to keep in mind that we had some extreme heat during the thirties, not sure if that wasn't the result of the industrial age but none the less we here in Oklahoma had some serious heat back then.
And No I AM NOT A climate change denier
