Twitchy: Everyone (except Obama?) cheers Gabby Douglas’ Kellogg’s endorsement deal

Last edited Sat Aug 4, 2012, 06:28 PM - Edit history (1)

This has officially blown my stack today.

http://twitchy.com/2012/08/04/everyone-except-obama-cheers-gabby-douglas-kelloggs-endorsement-deal/

Gabby Douglas has scored a sweet Kellogg's endorsement deal. Some are saying it's a $90 million deal. I don't know the actual figure, but whatever it is, yay for Gabby, right?

Except some wonderful American human beings on Twitter are connecting this to the "didn't build that" lie being told about President Obama:

@nhhorton
Tim Philips: Obama to Gabby Douglas "you didn't earn that gold medal! Somebody else built the roads to the gym." #dream12 #tcot #fb

@claudiafire
I congratulate Gabby Douglas and the US Women's Gymnastic program for their Gold medal wins! Yes They BUILT THAT and deserve all the credit!

@KateOH
#GabbyDouglas -- she built that. #Olympics

@Tru2Hue
CNN says Gabby Douglas chartered her own destiny. She built her own destiny? You mean Obama didn't do that for her?

Things like this are so mean and low, I just don't know how to handle it other than to pity the small minds that would try to make Gabby Douglas and her achievements a wedge issue. I guess they haven't heard the Mitt Romney 2002 quote:

You Olympians, however, know you didn't get here solely on your own power," Romney said after congratulating the athletes. "For most of you, loving parents, sisters or brothers, encouraged your hopes, coaches guided, communities built venues in order to organize competitions. All Olympians stand on the shoulders of those who lifted them.

There's nothing wrong with what Mitt said in 2002. It's exactly the point that President Obama was making about businesses. The absolute viciousness of trying to use Gabby Douglas to attack the president just staggers my mind. Boo on them.

ETA: Oh, my Gawd, color me clueless. Twitchy is a site run by that batshit asshole from hell, Michelle Malkin. No wonder I'm furious. This is definitely a Malkin-inspired level of madness I'm suffering from. Sorry, folks, I didn't mean to post a "sun rises in east" post today.

Seriously.

They are cogs in a vast infrastructure.

just what you posted here:

I pity the small minds that would try to make Gabby Douglas and her achievements a wedge issue. Perhaps you haven't heard the Mitt Romney 2002 quote:

I don't know if you can get that all into a response, or if you would even want to be bothered. But I think you said it just right.

Although I do tweet.

But I went back and put just that part into the comments. Thanks for the suggestion. We'll see how it turns out, but from the look of the other comments... Reason and respect just doesn't seem to be prerequisites for the comment section there!

? she had to move to Iowa or something , away from her family .

that there was a family who helped her with this. that her parents allowed her to do this .

and didn't Gabby herself give credit to God ?
