Psychiatrist warns Trump's mental state is rapidly deteriorating -- and he may be 'on the boundary of

psychosis and reality’

https://www.rawstory.com/2018/06/psychiatrist-warns-trumps-mental-state-rapidly-deteriorating-may-boundary-psychosis-reality/

Look at the people who are winning nomination on the Republican side. Nazis are running for office as Republicans. There are candidates who take Trump as a role model and will be even more extreme than him. There have been elections where Republican candidates and officeholders who dared to criticize Trump have been punished by Republican voters. It’s almost like a refinement process. This happens in fascist societies. We saw this with Nazi Germany.

I truly believe that the elected Republican politicians are completely lost souls. They are like the characters in a zombie movie who keep their father in the basement because they don’t really understand that he is a zombie. He’s not coming back. I really, truly think it’s that bad. There a few Republicans who are trying to sound the alarm about Trump, but the Republican Party as a whole is like organized crime at this point, and Trump is the boss. There’s absolutely no other conclusion you could draw.

Trump’s grandiosity is such that he actually believes he is an expert on everything. Based on his speeches and interviews, Trump is apparently the world authority on 25 different issues. This also speaks to a bigger problem, which is the death of expertise. For authoritarians and malignant narcissists like Trump an independent source of authority, whether it’s the press, the bureaucracy or the experts, are threats to his authority. Trump leaves positions at the State Department unfilled because he doesn’t want experts telling him what to do. He knows that he knows more than everybody else. What’s really frightening is that he actually believes that he has this kind of papal infallibility.

The simplest explanation is that Donald Trump is experiencing substantial organic cognitive decline, but he hasn’t reached the bottom of the hill yet. He’s fallen, let’s say, 25 stories, but he’s going to continue to deteriorate. Cognitive deterioration only goes in one direction. It doesn’t stand still and it doesn’t get better. No, Trump is not ready for the nursing home. But that doesn’t mean he’s capable of managing the White House. Once you factor in nuclear weapons the possibilities are truly horrific.

But it's there, plain as day when you just listen: "There is no longer a nuclear threat from North Korea...You can now feel much safer than the day I took office. Sleep well tonight."

I never envisioned a majority of Republicans actually casting their lot with #45, to actually fall for this now-lethal reality-infomercial washout. I always had some tiny measure of faith that most Americans, in an extreme case, would stand united against a common threat.

But now, that's impossible. Republicans/Trumpists ARE the threat. To them, down is up, dark is light, etc. Their figurehead is a repulsive, crude, inept, incompetent, artificial "businessman" who is "not literary minded." They've surrendered their will to that one man. For the first time in my life (and I was born mid-20th century), I know we are venturing into territory we've never been before, in ways that are very negative and destructive. I have a deep, sickening sensation that this is what will soon be called normal, when things are extremely far from okay, in a way I've never perceived before.

Preaching to the choir, I know. My apologies. I had to vent a bit.

I'm afraid that it's going to have a ripple effect that will last awhile. It's particularly worrisome when you see other liberal democracies -- France, England, Germany, Italy, Poland, Sweden, etc. are all having this simultaneous battle with right-wing populism, which has gained ground. That means that this nationalist movement is worldwide, and it spreads like an infection.

Then there are too many good people who are rendered literally by information overload. The idea of the United States throwing in with Russia and North Korea, while flipping off Canada and Mexico, is just one more thing designed to have maximum impact, and sow doubt and confusion. I smell the stench of Bannon, still. He just got back from Italy, pushing his global vision for a nationalist revolution.

In the end, it's gangsterism, and the ill-gotten treasure that such a terrible undertaking yields.

environment. There is a fair amount of trust in the US, generally, that events/things sometimes tend to work themselves out, and many only casually pay attention to what is going on. That naivety is being manipulated and used to enable endless gangsterism. This, combined with "... this nationalist movement is worldwide, and it spreads like an infection" is damn frightening.

Many years ago, when Disney bought ABC, I wondered what on earth they wanted with a TV station. Disney was so clearly an entertainment company and, I inaccurately thought at the time, ABC a NEWS organization. Now it's all just mostly entertainmnet. Even MSNBC, for example, feeds us far too much gossip ABOUT the principals, and the players instead of important details like what's happening on the borrder, in our environment with the EPA gutting, with our courts, and all the kleptocracy going on. It's very discouraging.

Some people also like to give credit to a person they see moving around and doing things. The problem is corporate media, even on the default, when they not giving people gross falsehoods, is so completely camped in the notion of not hurting any potential advertisers senses they will hardly report anything difficult. It's all about the old adage, happy news for happy people.

they sense a loss of power, youth, vigor, attractiveness, and mental acuity that causes them to compensate in other ways to maintain their grandiose sense of self. Their entire waking hours from opening their eyes in the morning is to rally the psychic energy to perpetuate their sense of awe and wonder that they, and (they think) the whole world, has for themselves. It is very tiring to summon all that greatness together each day!

Diminishing circulation, mental skills, and alertness mean the delusions of grandeur must be formulated in a mental fog. That's where we are now. What's on paper doesn't matter, what the other party thought in negotiations doesn't matter; the only thing that matters is that the principal thinks greatness is increased each day and every hour!

Think of the things we don't know. Medications. Diseases. Rants and raves. Frankly I think Borderline Personality is mixed in because of the number of boundaries that have been breached in life, but no one ever mentions it. Just look at the symptoms and see if at least a few fit rather well:

https://www.psycom.net/depression.central.borderline.html

Having an unstable or dysfunctional self-image or a distorted sense of self (how one feels about one’s self)
Feelings of isolation, boredom and emptiness
Difficulty feeling empathy for others
A history of unstable relationships that can change drastically from intense love and idealization to intense hate
A persistent fear of abandonment and rejection, including extreme emotional reactions to real and even perceived abandonment
Intense, highly changeable moods that can last for several days or for just a few hours
Strong feelings of anxiety, worry and depression
Impulsive, risky, self-destructive and dangerous behaviors, including reckless driving, drug or alcohol abuse and having unsafe sex
Hostility

people with Schizophrenia mostly and people in my field would much rather work with them any day over the dreaded borderline patient. There is no rhyme or reason to anything they do and not much that works with them counseling-wise. With most, their main goal is to get as much attention as they possibly can and they WILL take you down if they don't like you.

https://www.salon.com/2018/06/13/psychologist-john-gartner-on-trumps-behavior-its-a-coup-thats-not-moving-slowly-anymore/

Trump's political movement meets the criteria for a political cult. You are a psychologist. Is it possible to reach someone who is stuck in Trump's cult? Why does he have such influence over these people?

It does meet the criteria. You've got the charismatic leader, and his followers subsume their identity into his group, which makes them feel larger and more powerful. Once you have that kind of blind belief and loyalty, the leader, as Donald Trump has said, could really shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and nothing would happen. The cognitive dissonance is such that the cult members will rationalize anything. For example, something like 50 percent of Republicans say that if Trump wanted to cancel the 2020 election, that would be fine with them.

He is actually the second most popular Republican president in the history of modern polling.

Yes, that's right. It's really shocking and frightening. It's shocking and frightening in a way that just makes you feel like you're on some kind of bad acid trip.

I have been saying for a long time that we need to constantly call it what it is - Neo-Fascism. More and more, we need to label and paint all the anti-democratic, neo-Fascist behaviors and policies as Fascist. We need to stick the Fascist label on them with the biggest glue gun we can find.

Republicans speaking out against Trump won't admit this, as it would mean they were complicit, but Trump is the almost inevitable result of 50 years of Southern Strategy/dog whistling, race-based gerrymandering, race-based voter suppression, jingosim, anti-intellectualism, etc.

Ivana Trump said that "Donald kept a book of Hitler's speeches near his bedside."
Trump responded to that accusation by saying:

From Metro (UK), April 12, 2018
"New Book Claims Hitler was 'Paranoid Schizophrenic' with a Persecution Complex"
Dr. Andrew Norman's new book, "Hitler's Insanity: A Conspiracy of Silence" sheds new light on the mass murdering dictator's mental health.
"He began showing symptoms in his twenties which is consistent with schizophrenia"

usually have the social ability to be able to manipulate people and to "figure out" people to the extent that Trump does. In addition, most schizophrenics will have had episodes of hearing voices, having visual hallucinations at some point in their lives. They are not usually as bombastic or extroverted as Trump. They would usually be fearful or not enjoy speaking in front of a large crowd.

How many articles can one read that inform us of the danger our "president" poses to America and the world? How many mental health professionals have gone on record to say he's unbalanced?

And yet, there he sits, strapped in the catbird seat, atop the pile of diplomatic and Constitution-destroying rubble he and his weirdo-pals have made, with a majority of Republicans backing him. Everyone on the right wing is infatuated with their rude, crude, insane leader.

So now what? Republicans will do NOTHING about this menace except praise him to the skies. All branches of the federal government are under one-party rule (just the way fascists like it). It's up to Democrats alone to slay this dragon.

For Donald Trump's and the Republics/public protection hospitalization with a full evaluation would be helpful. Taking an MMPI, Rosarch, or Wechsler battery would prove little over his actual behavior and statements.

The album has been playing in my mind, and with a few tweaks here and there, it would stand a good chance of (1) being a hit, (2) being sued for copyright infringement, or (3) being firebombed. Probably all three.

Tell me, Trump, how you feel tonight
Do you plan to put up a fight?
Do you feel that you've had the breaks?
What would you say were your big mistakes?...

Every time I look at you I don't understand
Why'd you let the things you did get so out of hand?...

That's a very generous interpretation. I think it is far more likely that Republicans in Congress are craven, greedy, immoral, opportunistic, weaklings along for the ride. They are betting that this will benefit them personally more than it will harm them, as long as they don't turn on Trump. They don't give a shit about the country.

There's a line in a Greg Lake song: 'The Christmas we get we deserve.' Applies to the collective lurch the civilized world has taken toward the hard right.

Star Trek tried to explain the fall of Rome and the rise of Hitler by allegorical plot lines, but only the subprime madness and our failure (present company excepted) to jail the bankers, kicked off the screaming nosedive into the giant gold plated toilet that some would call The Donald . . .

The GOP politicians support him because they are cut from the same piece of cloth. He says what they think, and they feel they are getting a piece of the action.
