So, I frequent a forum for movie collectors and lovers. It's predominantly men and boys (I say this because some of them act like boys) with a few women here and there. I'm reading through a posting about the movie Annihilation with Natalie Portman. Here is what he said:
I'm so over video games and movies trying to be progressive and cater towards women. There is no point.
I'm not suggesting this film did that either. I love this movie and whatever choices the director made are just fine. But it's simply another piece of the puzzle that is representative of the whole. Just like how none of the women I know went out and supported Ghostbusters. I'm making a generalization here obviously not all people are like this, but it's generally true.
I don't know what we would've done if the men hadn't give us unappreciative women the right to vote or owning property.
What a douche.

(32,102 posts)weren't just cast as "eye candy" in a low cut top, or someone's girlfriend with no real role in the story, ya think we'd like movies better? A movie with a real story and not just a bunch of shooting and explosions? Think "Norma Rae."

(35,446 posts)women watch the movie. The Ghostbusters reboot and probably the Oceans reboot won't do all that well, but those movies just changed the genders of the leads instead of it being an original idea. In contrast, Bridesmaids, had a predominately female cast, and did very well because it was an original female story.

(31,011 posts)It's a sci-fi movie with a little horror thrown in. The last twenty minutes are really good and kind of throws you.
I stay away from gore movies as a whole. This does have some gruesome moments, but it's still a fascinating story and a well-made movie.
I get that it's not for everyone.

(10,156 posts)I'm such a cynaical asshole when it comes to movies and such. So it goes both ways my friend...it isn't because of female casts...it's because the movie itself is horrible. Guess Einstein didn't think of that.

Men like to look at pretty women - and that's my generalization for today.

(10,156 posts)A lot of women are beautiful, but I don't stare like most would or cat call that's just disrespectful. Same for men, a lot are handsome.

(31,011 posts)because it was a mostly all-woman cast and those that didn't weren't appreciative of it.
Fact is, some liked it and some didn't just like with any movie. This douche was condescending and chauvinistic about it.

(10,156 posts)Can be said for all male cast. Most I've seen are garbage movies because the story was terrible. Just because it's all women doesn't mean a woman has to like it automatically. That's just stupid thinking.
