This whole article is a watery cocktail of distancing and deflection. Does it have plenty of Jonah's trademark apologist spin for everyone who worked so damn hard to put Trump in office to begin with?

Of course it does, you knew it would - Oh it also has a side order of "Joe McCarthy weren't so bad" thrown in for some flavor.

I'm sure you'll be glad to know that in Goldberg land, Trey Gowdy is an "Impeccable Conservative" being unfairly attacked by the Cheeto hordes.

According to the Goldberg narrative Trey is In no way related to that misshapen elf with bad haircuts who spent all of the build up to the election running show trials over bullshit for the benefit of the GOP campaign.

Nope. Never happened.

That Jonah Goldberg peddled lies, innuendo, and fiction while attacking Clinton, Obama, Feinstein and Schumer non stop for almost a decade is never mentioned.

Which is odd, it must have slipped his mind.

2. It's the Republican Establishment defending itself

Oh, there is little to zero doubt these conservative writers and pundits paved the way for Trump, and their loathing of Clinton has always been slightly unhinged and pathological. To read National Review is to understand that Hillary was history's next Stalin.

However, Trump ended up so crazed, so damaged, so substantially reckless and unpredictable, that we now have a cohort of conservatives who are deemed, "NeverTrumpers".

There are quite a number of them. Goldberg, Jennifer Rubin, David Frum, etc. But it's not so much that they oppose Trump's policies exactly. They'd like a wall, an anti-immigrant agenda, a war with Iran, etc.

It's that his careless disregard for the Republican Establishment and willingness to slap them around as subservients offends these people. They're not so much against Trump as they're pro- their own privilege within the party and the accepted Washington political order.

So, this is how much I particularly care about their tears.

They made their bed. What, just now they're noticing that bed is kind of messy and shit-stained and a cat vomited on it at some point?

Huh. Go figure. Feels like they should've kind of noticed that one while they were making it.
