James Allsup went from a pro-white group to a post in a Washington state GOP in an uncontested race.Kelly Weill 06.05.18 5:03 AM ET
An affiliate of a pro-white group who marched in Charlottesville last year was elected to a Republican Party post in Washington state last week, part of his campaign to take over the GOP for the alt-right.
James Allsup, 22, attended the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, where white supremacists chanted anti-Semitic slogans and one allegedly drove a car into a crowd, killing a protester and injuring more. Allsup was filmed marching with Identity Evropa, an anti-immigrant alt-right group. Fallout over the rally led to Allsup stepping down as president of the Washington State University College Republicans, a group he once boasted of taking over. Now he claims hes on the way to taking over the local GOP.
Immediately after his election Allsup said he was attending a Spokane GOP dinner headlined by former Rep. Jason Chaffetz (who did not return The Daily Beasts request for comment), and claimed he or an associate were scheduled for a private meeting with an unnamed congressperson.
On June 2, Allsup posted a picture of a certificate on Facebook. As of today I am officially an elected official in the state of Washington and Republican party, he wrote. Cool!

No one voted for him, he was a default appointee, the only name available for this "precinct committee officer" position. Now he claims he's taking over the local GOP. I'd feel sorry for them having this creep dumped on them if... Hmmm, there is no "if."

(58,785 posts)Koch-backed, though.
And remember, that Tea-Party "takeover" was a Koch scheme, directed and financed, but also that tea partiers thought they were rebelling against people like the Kochs. And Trump is an astonishingly silly and clueless Republican base rebellion against the Koch types' control; yes, the big donors have turned a lot of his power into lemonade, but they don't have good control of that electorate at all.
Which is an argument for fear of a large white nationalist movement next, I have to admit. We need to watch for their next very bad leader to start appearing in the news, the one who comes after they discover Trump's not the strong leader they thought they were getting and throw him under the bus. There's the Kochs' Pence waiting quietly, of course...

A black hole of ignorance snuffs out all truth and light in those deplorable idiots.

(58,785 posts)fear, and thus must identify and fight, a huge existential enemy. When the Cold War collapsed and left them without a Russia as an external threat, I watched them turn inward against the Democrats, focusing especially on the Clintons. I recognized it happening as it did, but I didn't realize that it was being directed and grown by conspiracists to split and defeat the electorate.
Should have. I never believed it couldn't happen here, always felt it could, just didn't really think it would.

(5,124 posts)They need to own it. I am getting tired of them saying that these are the fringe elements. Why are these people drawn the republicans?
If they were so appalled, they would be out there repudiating and denouncing them and letting them know they don't have a voice in their party.
