CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - The family of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student David Hogg was "swatted" Tuesday morning, causing police to respond to their Parkland home.
A call came into the Broward Sheriff's Office claiming a hostage situation at the home.
Coral Springs Fire Rescue arrived at the scene to find there was no hostage situation and the call was a prank.
Hogg was not home at the time of the incident and is currently in Washington, DC with his mother to accept the RFK Human Rights award.
In a phone call with Local 10, Hogg reacted to the massive police presence at his home following the prank call.
"I think it's really a distraction from what we're trying to fix here," Hogg told Liane Morejon. "Which is the massive gun violence epidemic in this country.

(90,769 posts)where confusion - all but guaranteed by the deception - could turn ugly - are those guilty of swatting ever charged with attempted murder?
Swatting is the deliberate attempt to set up a situation where police, the actual SWAT team, and even the FBI, descends on a person creating the circumstances for possible gunfire and the risk of injury or death.
I don't believe the person doing the swatting is somehow unaware of this risk.
I think that's pretty much their intentions - to cause physical harm.

(22,670 posts)A hoax phone call led police to the home of Stoneman Douglas High student David Hogg in what could have been a disastrous event. Hogg has been attacked by the NRA, Republican politicians, and right-wing media relentlessly after he became a gun safety advocate.
The Broward County Sheriffs Office in Florida said police were called to Hoggs home with a phony claim that someone broke into the house. The caller said that the person had an AR-15 rifle and was holding the family hostage. - Share Blue
Republicans and their followers are a disease and we should look at them and their affiliation with such acts as such.
