David Corn: "I'm asking everyone who gives a damn about the Trump-Russia scandal to read, and share"

Here's my latest. I'm asking everyone who follows this Twitter feed--and who gives a damn about the Trump-Russia scandal--to click, read, and share it. And if you can't click and read, still please share it. https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2018/06/trump-russia-scandal-media/ … via @MotherJones

Donald Trump Is Getting Away With the Biggest Scandal In American History
Witch hunt.
DAVID CORN JUN. 5, 2018 6:00 AM

https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2018/06/trump-russia-scandal-media/

The other evening I was on a cable news show to cover the latest Russia news of the day—and I had an epiphany.

We were talking about a recent scoop from Michael Isikoff, the co-author of my latest book, Russian Roulette. He had reported that a Spanish prosecutor had handed the FBI wiretapped transcripts of a Russian official who was suspected of money laundering and for years had been trying to gain influence within the American conservative movement and the National Rifle Association. We then discussed a New York Times article revealing that Michael Cohen, Donald Trump’s longtime fixer, had met with a Russian oligarch in January 2017, around the time a US company affiliated with this tycoon began making $500,000 in payments to Cohen. Next we turned to the latest in the so-called Spygate nonscandal—the false claim, championed by Trump and his defenders, that the FBI infiltrated a spy into his presidential campaign for political purposes.

Then the show moved on. We had spent 15 or so minutes on these important developments, delving into the details—but without referring to the essence of the story. And it hit me: Though it’s clear Trump’s presidency has been hobbled by the Russia scandal, the manner in which this matter plays out in the media has helped Trump.

Almost every day, Trump pushes out a simple (and dishonest) narrative via tweets and public remarks: The Russia investigation is a…well, you know, a witch hunt. Or a hoax. Or fake news. He blasts out the same exclamations daily: Witch hunt, hoax! Hoax, witch hunt! That’s his mantra.

that wraps up what Russia and Trump and his allies have done. What shall it be?

It needs to be two or at most four words.

It needs to include Russia, Trump and the integrity of our votes and that Trump would not have won without their interference.

"Russia hacked our Presidential election!"

"Our elections are being hacked by Russia!"

"Russia has stolen our Presidency!"

a scandal is when a pres gets a blow job from a determined young woman in the copy room at the WH.
Scandal is easier for the small mind to encompass, so it can't be more than 3 words--Russia Treason Affair? The Treasonous Cabal?

I don't know. Short and to the point. Unfortunately this crime is so vast that it's hard to boil down to a slogan.

Or include other things that Trump has done, but most importantly if you are going to respond to one of his tweets do it with the information that he is trying to hide with said tweets.

Donald Trump is an illegitimate president who colluded with Russia to steal the 2016 election in return for favorable treatment of the US toward Russia. He will end up impeached and jailed for his actions.

so true.

In many ways, the media presents the Russia scandal mostly as a political threat to Trump, not as a serious threat to the nation.
And many Americans, thanks to Trump and his allies, view it as a charade. All this shows how easy it is for disinformation and demagoguery to distort reality. That is a tragedy for the United States. For Trump—and Putin—that is victory...........................................

...people who have time to educated themselves know who and what he is.

So this operates on two levels.

1). Yes, there are people who would like to see him out of the job just because of who he is

2). "Who he is" doesn't even begin to tell the story, and it's irrelevant in light of crimes that have actually been committed.

The Manafort / Kushner / Papadopoulos / Flynn / Gates / Don Jr. stuff?

That's real, baby.

It has nothing to do with liking or disliking Trump.

But he's playing the "Witch Hunt" card relentlessly, and the Red Hats are right there with him, lapping it up.

the Trump / GOP narrative is what is covered in the media. The democrats have no message or the media doesnt want to cover that message.

I am getting more frustrated by the democrat party not able to easily make the GOP and Trump out as damaging to the country in a large way but here we are. Nancy Pelosi is just as damaging as Trump in our world today.

You have the mean ruthless win at all cost guys (GOP)

You have the good decent nice guys and do it the right way (Dems)

the GOP narrative seems to be winning. It pisses me off.

Corns article does NOTHING but regurgitate this same scenario that has developed over the past 18 months.

Needs to stop helping him promote his repeated propaganda that's lies. Simple as that. Stop showing clips of him lying, falsely accusing others, or from his minions. They're pushing propaganda to weaken the truth, so the media need to stop putting his fake news propaganda on tv, and in the print, or you're helping him. Truth in our media does need to return , and call it what it really is , all lies and propaganda designed to weaken anything true put out.

In 2016, Vladimir Putin’s regime mounted information warfare against the United States, in part to help Trump become president. While this attack was underway, the Trump crew tried to collude covertly with Moscow, sought to set up a secret communications channel with Putin’s office, and repeatedly denied in public that this assault was happening, providing cover to the Russian operation. Trump and his lieutenants aligned themselves with and assisted a foreign adversary, as it was attacking the United States. The evidence is rock-solid: They committed a profound act of betrayal. That is the scandal.

Dems should be shouting this summary from the rooftops 24/7.
