Trump is too.
You have to be either completely stupid or completely desperate to tamper with witnesses once you've been indicted by a special prosecutor. Manafort knew he was being observed and monitored which is why he used encrypted software to attempt to communicate. So he's not stupid.
Manafort *is* going to go to jail until his trial. He will break and will turn against Trump to save his own ass. And if Trump tries to pardon him, I suspect Mueller has a plan for that.
Manafort just set off a move that allows Mueller to check-mate Trump. This is the beginning of the end.

(7,768 posts)When is the judge expected to rule on this, have you heard?
I would expect it to be as soon as possible, but I'm clueless about legal proceedings.
Thanks!

(7,300 posts)The answer was probably in a couple of days so I would think he'd be in jail by Friday if not sooner.

(32,639 posts)That's why Mueller has frozen Manafort's assets and reported his passport numbers to every TSA scanner in the country. If he tries to fly out of the country he'll be caught, but there are other ways to get out. Manafort wears an ankle cuff with GPS senser that's monitored all the time, so he wouldn't get far.
However he's forfeited on the deal he made for house arrest privileges, and now he's going to jail.
Just a reminder that Cheeto said at the very beginning of the Mueller investigation, "If Manafort goes down, I'm going down too." Their fates are linked and even Cheeto knows it.
PearliePoo2
(7,768 posts)And I'm not familiar with the BLOTUS quote about if Manafort goes down, he will too. That's pretty revealing!
So they have his money tied up, passport seized, all communications monitored and a GPS strapped to his ankle.
Sounds good but I still don't trust this criminal asshole.
Question about GPS ankle bracelets. Does anyone know if they send out an alarm if they're messed with? I would think so, but I don't know.
For example, let's say that Manafort cut the thing off and put it in his bed so it appeared to the monitors that he had retired for the night, was sleeping and holding still. That theoretically would give him time to get on a private airplane and fly to some other country.
The Feds need to post a 24 hour armed sentry (or two or three) at this fucker's house until a week from Friday when they drag his ass in front of the pissed-off judge and she sends him to jail for good and forever.
OliverQ
(3,363 posts)in Mueller's team, Manafort, and his defense lawyers to discuss this and changes to his bail. Or should flat out just say bail is revoked, Go to jail, although the latter is unlikely without a hearing first.
But witness tampering is a very serious offense, so she will likely make a decision within the next few days about whether to send him to jail.
Stonepounder
(4,033 posts)Manafort's lawyers have until Friday, 6/8 to respond to Mueller's filing.
There will be a hearing on Friday 6/15 to decide whether to revoke Manafort's bail and send him to jail.
Note: I also heard that the standard of proof that there be 'probable cause' to believe the allegations, not 'beyond a reasonable doubt'.
I suspect that Manafort won't be enjoying his dinner of 6/15.
PearliePoo2
(7,768 posts)he's absolutely going to jail, probably forever.
He said judges REALLY hate it and get PISSED when guys do this shit (tamper with witnesses) when they're out on bail.
The legal analyst said it pisses off the prosecution too but also makes them happy because now they're going to really nail the son of a bitch. (works for me! )

(2,343 posts)so many "beginnings of the end", that I'll believe it when i see it. I'm still under the impression that they'll all get off with a slap on the wrist and we'll see another trump term. Americans have shown too often that we are an immature, immoral and stupid bunch. How many unregulated guns are floating around? How many hummers are out rampaging along the road? How bout those awesome coal rolling rednecks? How many dumbasses believed pizza basement? How many don't believe Mueller has found any wrongdoing? How many aren't treating our current situation as an absolute, horrifying crisis? How many republicans still support this idiocy? I hope I'm wrong. We just need to not get too excited about the prospect of the beginning of the end.

(14,154 posts).... once Pence is in the Oval Office. Expect them to go into high gear as soon as Pence enters the office of the presidency. They know they only have a short window where they are in complete control so they will max out the changes to a Fascist Christian Theocracy at twice the speed of light. They will be euphoric with the new power invested in the Crazy Christian Fundamentalist extreme Right Wing of the Nazi Republican Party.
You think team trDump is ruthless, wait until Pence grabs the reins of power and enacts his warped version of Christianity. Democracy will likely not withstand the turmoil and disruptions soon to come our way.

(9,666 posts)All this time, it sounds he would be staying true to drump. No flipping.
Perhaps one or two things have happened. One, maybe a flipping opportunity has been explicitly denied by the Special Counsel. Two, he has been told by the 45 team that he was going to have to fall on his sword, become the sacrificial goat with no pardon offered. If both are true then he is really stuck, and he's left to his own devices to try and un-fix himself.

(19,201 posts)I beg to differ. Anyone attempting to contact a witness for the purpose of suborning perjury, using encrypted software or not, is stupid. He should know the government has much more weight behind it than he could ever hope to have.
Manafort is a stupid, stupid man. I hope he goes to jail for it, I hope Mueller has an airtight case against him, I hope Manafort loses his case, and I hope he goes to prison for the rest of his life. Those are my most fervent hopes concerning Mr. Manafort.

(42,770 posts)That he is inately corrupt. That tampering with a witness is just another part of his world. I think trump is of this world too. Thinks nothing at all about sending bulldog lawyer to scare people, plays the legal, tax and bankruptcy systems, cheats on his wife, pays people for silence, smears his enemies. Both just rotten to the core.
