Trump Tweets that he can pardon himself, and now I get to watch various news debates regarding constitutional crises while actual legal scholars dismiss Trump's notion without breaking a sweat and then recommend Trump get his head examined.
Trump's position is not coming from a legal authority. And it's certainly not coming from a desire to push the boundaries of theoretical constitutionality.
It's coming from Fox News. It's coming from nine straight years of being told that Obama was a tyrannical dictator getting away with murder and wiping his ass with the constitution during some secret pilgrimage to Mecca. It's about waiting for Martial Law while legal guns are confiscated and how everything Obama did was evidence that he was forcing Sharia Law on all the hardworkin', white Christians.
Now Trump's president and ready to assume Obama's throne. Except Obama was never any of those things. Never broke any laws. Never abused his office. Unconstitutional? Obama taught Constitutional Law at Harvard and he spent every day of his job worrying about doing the right 'constitutional' thing. And he also spent every day of that job being reminded by the most worthless congress in fucking history just how much power he DIDN'T have while they broke records for filibusters and even kept him from appointing a Supreme Court Justice. Yeah. Obama was a regular 'monarch.'
This is the chapter of the story where Trump begins to learn, little by little, just how powerful he really is. And what he'll learn is that the only power he has, or has ever had politically, was and is provided by the complicity and cowardice of whatever fascist, white nationalist, toxic reservoir of shit the GOP decided to become the moment they sold their soul, as well as their future to him.
To say that the upcoming elections in November are the most important in your life just might be the mother of all understatements. I hope we pull it off, if for nothing else, to simply serve the GOP the mother of all reckonings.
