Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI knew this Dana Bash "source" story was going nowhere.
Just now she was on CNN trashing Harry Reid saying he is just trying to raise money from his statements about Romney paying no taxes for 10 years.
Her and Candy also tried to make it look like Reid does this sort of thing to people he dislikes.
No mention of Bash's source who, last night, she claimed could confirm that Reid knows what he's talking about.
CNN is in the tank for Romney. Bash was either full of shit or the powers that be stepped on the story.

(1,374 posts)As long as Dems keep putting pressure on Romney on his tax returns. Even Reid's strategy keeps it in the news. The media thrives on conflict.
Don't forget that many prominent Republicans have said he should release his tax returns. It will dog him until the election or until he releases them.

(4,220 posts)Is it not like fluffy morning drivel until 1:00pm and then 3 HOURS OF WOLF Blitzer (CANDY Crowley subbing this week, did Wolf stay Israel after "doing" Willard???) then 'kin Erin Burnett ("We asked our Strike Team and they say..." WTF is her Strike Team and why is she on TV???) and then Anderson, who is Mr. False Equivalent to the 10th power, and lest we not forget it was on his show that CNN let David Gergan NOT TELL US about his Bain connections so many times!
Fuck CNN!!!

(1,374 posts)but without investigation by the so-called journalists how do we get the truth? If Rmoney never releases his tax returns we will never know unless other sources tell us why he's being so evasive about the issue.

...should be linking Bash's remarks to an actual investigative report or expecting her comments to spark one. She made a point, which is someone else knows the investor and finds that person credible. That is all.
If Romney keeps stonewalling, his campaign will keep going down hill.

(4,578 posts)The longer he lets it fester and plays defense from the sidelines in snippets the more people form opinions. The damage be done. Even if he is holding back to release them later and prove it all wrong, it won't help him. Chip chip chip away.

I wouldn't be so quick to trash the Bash. Did anyone see her piece last night about Eric Cantor and the STOCK loophole? She trashed him! . . . "Congress closes loophole in stock trading law after CNN report".

(27,461 posts)Mudcat Sanders is using that story to run against Cantor, he was on DU recently and called it a masterful piece of journalism by Bash and the other reporter.

Harry sure struck a nerve....

(27,461 posts)the Kos headline was misleading about what she reported.
My guess is that this OP is exaggerating in the opposite direction.

(1,374 posts)I'm responding to the overwhelming posts last night where DUers thought this was the big break in the Reid story that would take down the Romney campaign.
I expressed my doubt then and I was right. That's the purpose of this OP. The Dana Bash revelation is going nowhere. That doesn't mean the question of Romney's tax returns is going nowhere.

(111,367 posts)The plutocracy will accept a second Obama term, they haven't put out a hit on him yet, but they'd really prefer Rmoney.
Somebody at Bain blabbed somewhere along the line. I'm not betting on his longevity. Once they figure out who it is, there will probably be a lot of kiddie porn found on his computer or something else to assassinate his character and remove him.
The story's got legs whether or not the mass media do much with it. Rmoney has failed to do what other candidates have done and that indicates he's got something to hide, either accounting manipulation to lower his tax rate to a ridiculous level or the magnitude of his use of offshore tax havens.
People don't like the man or trust the man. Whether or not this translates into a low voter turnout among the right depends on whether they hate Obama even more.

(18,402 posts)I don't know where people got that idea.
I read the transcript (I never watch CNN) and, aside from the Reid bashing she was doing then, she simply said that a close friend of Reid's told her he could confirm there was a source (unnamed). That's not HER source; that's her saying someone else said there was a source. It was a non-story.

(3,697 posts)A fact that most missed in the rush to embrace the story and Garner Headlines as substantiating the claim against Romney. I agree hers was a non-story to begin with.

(653 posts)I got to tell you, covering Harry Reid for a lot of years, there are times when he says things off the cuff that make his aides wince, like talking smelly tourists in the capitol. I'm not making this up. This is not one of those times.
This is one of those times where he knows exactly what he's doing. He's doing it on purpose. He's doing it for political reasons because he wants this issue, Romney's taxes, to be talked about on programs like yours, and wants it to be headlines in newspapers, and wants Mitt Romney to respond on this issue, which they think is a negative for Romney as opposed to issues that Romney wants to talk about.
There are plenty of reasons for the media to go after this story. I laid a bunch of them out here:
