Apparently, according to the article I saw on it, Romney got emotional while delivering some of what turned out to be a lie to the media on his tax returns.
Could be pretty damning stuff if the guy resorted to emotions to try to convince those listening to his testimony when he knew darn well he was lying.
That's some speculation on my part. Can't wait to see Rachel's report.

Reportedly, Romney has a perspiration problem.
http://nymag.com/news/politics/mitt-romney-2011-10/index2.html
"He (Romney) was prone to profuse sweating, and the imagery of the era is heavy on the CEOs drenched, stained shirts."
Barack will make him sweat!
Kennedy-Nixon debates:
http://www.kennesaw.edu/pols/3380/pres/1960.html
During cutaways, the cameras caught Nixon wiping perspiration from his forehead while Kennedy was taking him to task on the issues.
- hurt Nixon in the polls afterwards because the media picked up on it
What will they do about Romney's nervous chuckle when he lies? He lies a lot but clearly, from the number of times he's been caught, he's not very good at it.

(94,789 posts)Republican Presidential nominee Mitt Romney has seen pressure mount from both Democrats and Republican pundits to release his tax returns. Romney has maintained that he is simply not enthusiastic about giving Democrats hundreds or thousands of more pages to pick through, distort, and lie about.
But in 2002, during his run for Governor Romney attacked his opponent Shannon OBrien for not releasing her husbands tax returns.
Romney said he declined to release his tax returns on a principled position saying it one debate I value my privacy. The Romney campaign accused OBrien, who released her tax returns every year since 1998, of being disingenuous by releasing her but not her husband's returns, a former lobbyist who had worked with Enron.
Romney spokesman and current top Romney aide Eric Fehnrstrom claimed OBrien was attempting to hide possibly embarrassing finances from voters.
But then, why would Romney flip-flopping on a position be news now?

(24,264 posts)she said last night this wasn't an NBC News story but her staff working on a story.
They do that for her show not Morning Joe or Hardball.
When the anchor breaks the story then the other shows can react and play the tape etc over and over.

(3,626 posts)He demanded that she release her husband's tax returns and at the same time refused to release his own. He also tried to browbeat Ted Kennedy into releasing his tax info and again, refused to reveal his. So I doubt this is Rachel's news. Maybe it has something to do with his residency. I know that he claimed to live in his son's (unfinished) basement so he would qualify as a resident of Massachusetts to run for office. Can you imagine? Richie-Rich Mitt 'roughing it' in an unfinished basement? Not if hell froze over. There was confusion because he was supposedly living in Utah at the time. I don't think you can legally be a resident of two states at the same time. One has to be considered primary and any others secondary.

(305 posts)More then likely it's some piece of footage where Romney say's something dumb. If it were actual hard news and she held it til Friday night at 9, when the majority of people watching are just waiting for Lockup, she would be very bad at her job.

(24,264 posts)the fact that she teased the story to her audience as a Friday night builder shows the staff thinks it's a good story.
If it's a really good story they may have wanted to do it last night but Legal maybe needed an extra day to clear it.
So no, they would not worry about dropping it on a Friday.
Getting stronger numbers on a usually soft Friday night is a good thing, a very good thing.
Because if it's a big enough story the follow up you do on Monday gets the bump in numbers on a night when you really want it from the folks who tune in for the recap/update.
It's nightly news people.
The TV camera needs to be fed every evening....

(51,745 posts)but I'm disappointed in Rachel. I waited the whole hour for her to spring some juicy tape and got nothing but more proof that Romney is a hypocrite, or, as Rachel put it, that Reid is doing the same thing Romney did in his governor race. The tape was Romney calling out his opponent to release her husband's returns "if she has nothing to hide."
By the time Rachel started making the "Obituary" cocktail, I realized I had been had. Hope next time she hypes something, it's worth the hype.

(129,662 posts)was that he claimed back in 2002 that he had "paid" his taxes and had "filed as both Utah AND Massachusetts residents." He and Fehrnstrom apparently repeated this over and over until it was discovered that he did NOT file any Massachusetts taxes. So then he had to go back and file the Massachusetts taxes - retroactively. Of course this brings up the issue of him not really being a resident of MA when he was running for governor and thus technically making his run illegal.

Old political tactic. YOU frame them first and by October, for those not paying much attention to politics, you say "Romney" to them and they will say "Isn't that the guy who was dodging taxes?".
And besides (as a UMASS grad), MA does not equal the rest of the United States and few outside of that area are probably aware, which is why there is "national news" to let them know.

(305 posts)I am coming from the perpective of a Massachusetts voter watching the national party do the same fucking bonehead things it did in 2002, the same fucking thing. Attack Romney on his taxes, he waits it out and in the end he wins, because we will have not talked about the issues.
And just because someone doesn't agree with you 100% time, doesn't mean your not a good democrat. You just happen to pick 2 issues I don't agree 100% with the standard Democratic Party line. Incessant whining about taxes is the losers mentality. I want Carville and Begala, absolute beasts when it came to issue politics. Obama just spent over 100 million dollars to move up at most 1.5 points. Do you think Ted Kennedy,Bill Clinton or Johnson would pull this shit?

(16,916 posts)100 million to move up 1.5 points?
How about 100 million to keep from dropping 5 points? Who is to say which story is the truth and which story bullshit? Not you. Maybe neither version is true, and some third alternative is the answer? You wouldn't know, because you don't have any REAL facts, just your jaded perspective which you fly here like some flag signifying knowledge which you possess and which Obama does not.
You're nothing but a common critic, a Monday morning quarterback who thinks he would have foreseen every error, and claims to always have a better play book.
The truth is you've got nothing but your flag, so wave it well, your time in the spotlight is brief.

(2,894 posts)His saying, even when he was Governor of Massachusetts, that "Oh, it's Ann's thing." Pointing out that it was a business and he took a 77K tax write-off, etc.
I'm kind of thinking, though, that when you have 250 Million dollars at your disposal, if not more, that your wife dumping a few hundred thousand into a horse hobby is small potatoes and that could be a genuine answer. Even a congenital liar could tell the truth *sometimes*.
Anyway, I look forward to whatever Rachel has come up with and I hope she looks twice before she gets into an elevator...
