(146,325 posts)One of the problems of privilege is that so many aren't even aware that they have it. That prevents them from ever thinking about it. Awareness of one's own privilege is essential to even beginning to understand how that privilege impacts others.

(58,785 posts)That DU is being flooded with this black-on-white/white-on-black stuff in the runup to the midterms is not a coincidence.
Somehow, I don't think the complete elimination of Hispanics and other minorities from this discussion, as if they don't even exist or matter, is accidental or without utility either.
We have two parties: The Democratic Party, whose huge minority factions are portrayed not as our glory but as a weakness to use against us, and the White Man's Party that has one united majority.

(146,325 posts)The Republicans are running against the "others." Their water-carriers are working to minimize discussion of those "others" in places where such discussions typically take place. The goal is to minimize interest in voting against Republicans, as always.
I suppose that isn't obvious enough to some that they argue against it.
