Are your RW friends saying good things about Romney?

I've noticed that, despite all the bluster, shouting, and vitriol out there, the one thing missing is enthusiasm for their candidate. They can tell you all the reasons they hate Obama, but they can't give one reason why they like Romney.

I live in a red state, and have lots of RW facebook friends (by far, the majority). Nobody sings Romney's praises.

Contrast that to the massive turnout for Obama every time he made an appearance -- even overseas.

I don't think they truly believe he's right for America. They're riding on hatred for Obama, and nothing else.

They don't know what Romney stands for and they don't care. They just think that Democrats are bad and being a liberal is close to treason. You can't even discuss the issues with them because they don't know what they are and they don't care to find out. It's a perfect case of ignorance and apathy: I don't know and I don't care.

"I've never been less enthusiastic about a presidential election than I am this one."

This isn't just one person, this is several.

NO one likes that douche. He's a Gordon Gekko stereotype come to life, with zero likeable qualities.

Conservatives really have to come correct with the fact that if they want to win the Big One, they HAVE to lose the lunatic dominionist 1950s social viewpoints and renounce Reaganomics. The problem is that they're getting way TOO conservative, not that they're not conservative enough. The other problem is that everyone gets this . . . except the ruling conservatives who all think they're Charlie Kane shouting "THEY'LL THINK WHAT I TELL THEM TO THINK!"

But, their hate for the current President is strong enough to make them very enthusiastic.
Their enthusiasm is in beating and making sure that Obama will be a one term President.

The thing is, they do not call Obama "the" President. To any one who is not a Republican, they call him "Your President" not theirs.

All of my High School alums say very nice things about Rick Romney, cousin to Mitt.

Ironically Rick has RSVPd for the 40th reunion being held this weekend, unfortunately I couldn't make it.

Rick was a very nice, somewhat naive, kid. I never heard anyone, RW or LW ever say anything bad about Rick.

Also I never heard any bad things said about George, his uncle and Mitts Dad, except for what those Nixon people said about him, but then it turned out George was right about Vietnam after all.

around a viable candidate through the primaries. Recall how they jumped from one loser to the next, Trump=>Cain=>Bachmann=>Perry=>Gingrich=>Santorum? All of these clowns quickly self-destructed after brief moments in the sun.

Romney was and is the candidate of monied interests (Wall Street, Big Oil, Defense/MIC, Tobacco, etc) and what remains of the GOP establishment/country club faction. He's incapable of effectively manipulating the hate, fear, and selfishness that fuels the RW base.

Obama, Biden and Reid have effectively check-mated Romney re the tax return issue and I'll bet many of those Repig pirmary voters are rethinking their votes and regretting them.

I live in a very conservative part of NW FL and in past elections, we were awash in BUSH/CHENEY bumper stickers. Hell, if I took a count on the roads today I might even find a few of THOSE still around. I've seen practically no Romney bumper stickers and a few Obama bumper stickers. Guess we'll see more after the conventions. Will bumper stickers even be used...don't know if they are still considered an effective way to get name recognition?

When my husband and I try to talk to our son and daughter-in-law about the election we usually get nowhere. They voted for McCain/Palin even though we talked ourselves blue in the face trying to get them to understand the issues. They were totally hung up on abortion and our DIL was gungho for Palin. She actually LIKED her. They are not unintelligent but neither is highly educated nor are they particularly interested in knowing facts. They are highly religious and are influenced by the church and friends. DIL home schools the three grandchildren and has a huge circle of friends---locally and online----and they all support and reinforce each other with their right wing beliefs. They totally believe the lie that there is a WAR ON CHRISTIANITY.

Husband recently emailed them a report trying to explain to them how they will be negatively impacted financially if Romney is elected and that Obama's policies will work more in their favor. (Son works in decent job but they are not financially secure enough to withstand a job loss or unfavorable tax policies for very long.) Have not heard a peep from either of them. At our last face to face conversation they both insisted that they are NOT racist but that they just don't like Obama's policies. No time to get down to the nitty gritty with them as we were literally leaving their house when this conversation took place but I guarantee you it's not finances on their minds. It is ALL about abortion and Marriage Equality. They are willing to risk their OWN financial security to get rid of someone they believe has "Muslim in his background", is Pro Choice and who supports Marriage Equality. All the facts in the world do not get through to them. Sad but true. After seeing the crowds at Chik-fil-A on Wednesday, I fear there are many more just like them .

Fri Aug 3, 2012, 08:12 PM
Aug 2012

While it's known that kids often rebel against the parents when they grow up, it's also known that kids pretty much follow the belief system they were raised in the older they get.

How did your son become such a 'conservative' if his parents weren't?
Is it purely his wife's beliefs & he's following suit out of his attachment to her?
Because that DOES happen. People overhaul their whole value system if they are attracted to someone.
They make their beliefs match to make the relationship match.

Did he have these kinds of views before he met his wife?

Well, the ironic thing is his kids might end up doing the same thing to him as he did to you.
They may wholeheartedly endorse everything he stood against.
The miracle of life...

she dodged the bullet by saying.."he must have started out very young" /(BS)

Her most interesting comment: she was surprised (disappointed no doubt) how the reaction of the "foreign press" affected Romney's standing in the USA.

Because she deals with RRSP's (aka 401K's I think).. she follows trends, investments etc & the gossip that goes with it.

Here's hoping that the 'foreign' trip is Romney's Katrina.
