But don't worry about that, soon China will have all your data too. (99,710 posts)And you're competing against your fellow Americans, not Mensa members.
I suspect the questions we dismiss as laughably easy would stump a majority of Americans. I would make book a majority of Americans can not name the AXIS powers.
Ms. Toad
(34,074 posts)You are given a percentage score at end (recognition of the quantity you got correct), not a percentile score, (recognition of where you rank against whoever else has taken the quiz)
DemocratSinceBirth
(99,710 posts)Everybody on this board who has taken the test has answered 96% of the questions correctly or more . I would be willing to wager 96% would not be not the mean, median, or mode if the test was given randomly to American adults.
Ms. Toad
(34,074 posts)but the test results don't compare you to anyone else (so no competition).
I work with testing, and with an educated population that largely is not mathematically inclined, and most of them don't understand the difference between percentage and percentile. Your comment about competition (which can only be measured by an individual result if that result is a percentile) suggested you might have confused them, as well.
DemocratSinceBirth
(99,710 posts)Everybody here has answered 94% or more of the questions. That's different than saying everybody has scored 94% or higher than all the people who have taken the test. The latter number would actually be more useful as would the median and mean of the test takers.

(34,074 posts)Our history classes were all taught by coaches, so we never had class on Fridays (didn't want to tire the boys out) or on Monday (either celebrating or mourning). I never took my book home (in any history class), and never got less than an A.
The experience soured me on history, so when I needed sociology or history to satisfy my distribution requirements for my teaching certificate I took sociology.
But, according to this test, at 94%, I have a PhD in history. Guess I deserved the PhD as much as I deserved the A in high school all those decades ago . . .

(1,214 posts)Most of the wrong answers are totally out of context. The sort of thing I use on college exams to spot someone who simply didnt study in the first place. Only a person with zero familiarity with the topics would miss most of these.
For the record, I got a 99%, I missed one. I genuinely did not know there had ever been a female Emperor (empress) of China.

P.S. I'm trying to wrap my mind around the incongruity of using an Alt-right pejorative on a progressive board. Not everybody who holds himself or herself out as one is one. If I am a snowflake is DU my safeplace ?
Another thing in your post that is evocative of Trump is your unfamiliarity with the truth. You implied I was stupid, not the test. I couldn't care less about the latter, I do care about the former.

Of course the lion's share of the questions were glaringly easy but some weren't. That explains the paucity of perfect scores posted here. I assume the person/persons who designed the test assumed if all the questions were difficult the respondents would have have seen their answers were mostly incorrect and quit.
I didn't for a moment think the posters here wouldn't excel at this test, having been here a long time, and seen how they excel at other online tests.

Now you're patronizing me. First a predicate. My dad dropped out of school in the ninth grade. He died at the ripe old age of fifty eight putting up road signs in the Central florida sun. My mom was in Rapid Advance and graduated from high school at fifteen. She went to work as a bookkeeper to support her widowed mother and younger brother. I was the first person in my family to go to college. In fact I have a Master's degree in Political Science and did post grad work in Government at Florida State University.
Since the assertion embodied in your question is that I am somehow ill educated maybe you can share your educational achievements with the rest of us.
Thank you in advance.
P.S. I'm going out soon. I will be sure to check My Posts to see what invective , subtle or not so subtle, you have in store for me.

Anyone with a high school diploma who scored less than 90% on this should be embarrassed.
It would be more useful to answer your question and get a picture of American ignorance by looking at a study. For example:
https://www.nationalreview.com/2017/04/most-americans-fail-basic-civics-test/
"Today, only a quarter of Americans can even name the three branches of government; nearly a third cant name even a single one."
"A 2012 survey by Xavier University found that one in three native-born citizens failed the civics portion of the naturalization test, compared with the 97.5 percent pass rate on the civics portion among foreign-born applicants reported by USCIS in 2010. Furthermore, the survey noted that if the minimum score required to pass the exam were 70 percent rather than 60 percent, then half of native-born Americans would have failed."
