Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsHave we finally reached that long, dreaded "constitutional crisis"?
We knew it was coming. We just didn't know when? Are we finally at that point?
Or could Mitch McConnell resolve it all with one vote on the Senate floor?
Up 'til now, he has shrugged and said that he saw "no need for it at this time"?
Is it time now to bring up the bill, supported by Democrats and Republicans, to protect the Special Counsel from being fired by a President that is being investigated?
If we cannot succeed in that, then we may be very close to the heart of the crisis?

(5,810 posts)Armpits in alligators in this saga. No other answers make sense why they sit on their hands and do nothing while tRump is lining his pockets. We see another bombshell revealed and we assume that this will be IT. Now they will take action, we think. Only they dont.
When this all gets revealed so we know who all the players are, it will make Watergate look like a Sunday School picnic. This is serious and we need good people to step up and do the right thing. How much longer will we pretend like things are normal ? I am trying to hold on to a thread of hope and optimism since that is my normal demeanor. But damn. This is getting harder every.single.day. 😕 This is like nothing Ive Ever seen in my 69 years on this earth.

(1,216 posts)All people nominated by the president and confirmed by senate in DOJ, DOS, FBI, Treasury, Commerce, DHS, etc work directly at pleasure of the president., and he/she can fire any of them without OK from congress or the judicial branch. OTOH employees hired through civil service are more protected from indiscriminate firings.
Our constitution says the 3 branches are equal and separate.
If Congress passes laws protecting such people, that could cause a constitutional crisis and will end up in SCOTUS.
If he has not fired Mueller in over a year, it seems unlikely he would fire him directly now. If he did fire Mueller, it would open him up for impeachment by congress which is the only method spelled out in constitution on removal of a sitting president.
