(3,515 posts)To messers. Nehemiah Dodge, Ephraim Robbins, & Stephen S. Nelson, a committee of the Danbury Baptist association in the state of Connecticut.
Gentlemen
The affectionate sentiments of esteem and approbation which you are so good as to express towards me, on behalf of the Danbury Baptist association, give me the highest satisfaction. my duties dictate a faithful and zealous pursuit of the interests of my constituents, & in proportion as they are persuaded of my fidelity to those duties, the discharge of them becomes more and more pleasing.
Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State. Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties.
I reciprocate your kind prayers for the protection & blessing of the common father and creator of man, and tender you for yourselves & your religious association, assurances of my high respect & esteem.

(4,103 posts)but I'm sure the intent was not to not offend rational thinking people, but to specifically to get under the skin of Trump's knuckledraggin cult members who for some unknown reason look at the Orange Toddler as this masculine alpha male.

(14,174 posts)I think the left is sometimes crippled by our own zealous PC policing. CoughFrankenCough
We have to stop thinking every talking point....directed at them....must still pass through a rigorous PC ethics committee about what our side will accept if it was directed to us. Its another 'purity test' that is dragging us down from putting out attack ads that will actually do some damage.

(6,606 posts)It's the same when I hear bitch or cu_t words. Why is it that people use derogatory female words to express hatred? Just use words that are masculine to prove this point.

(58,724 posts)If it's not OK to denigrate 12 year old girls, why would it be OK to denigrate 12 year old girls and boys?
whopis01
(3,514 posts)Stating that 12 year olds dont respond as maturely to criticism as we would expect from an adult isnt denegrating to children. No one expects a child of 12 to have the same emotional maturity as an adult. It is like saying a 12 year old is physically weaker than an adult. It is, in almost all cases, a statement of fact.
However, when you say a 12 year old girl, it implies that this doesnt apply to 12 year old boys. If it applied to both, the phrase could have ended at 12 year old. The only reason to specify gender is to attribute it to that gender specifically.

(1,160 posts)Thank you. Too many times the description of a young girl's coming to terms with her feelings is awkward and feminine. Whereas for a boy, emotions are to be hidden and never seen, lest the young boy be seen as "girly" or as a "cry baby."

(81,322 posts)A thank-you or other thumb's-up. Needs no signature or identifier if you don't feel like it. Reinforce and reward GOOD behavior! If anything, you'll balance out any dirty looks or keyed car scars left by some asshole. Somebody who has these bumper stickers in public would probably appreciate knowing they're neither alone in their thinking nor shouting into a vacuum.

(51,611 posts)I have made tons since I am an illustrator and I can do it. I give them away as gifts to anyone who compliments them (I get a lot of that since I live in a blue area). The problem is that they fade so I have to keep making more or make new, up to date ones. At first I couldn't find ANY anti-tRump stickers on-line so I had to make my own. This was right after the election and people were still in shock or had hope that he wouldn't be as bad as he turned out to be.

(4,291 posts)On a weekend getaway to a resort area -- which I shall not name -- I had to park next to a car with a splattering of reich-wing nut-job stickers, not just on the bumper but all over the driver's side. I won't go into the details, but I was really tempted to break out my Sharpie and color-in the "T" on at least one of the stickers. But I knew that vandalism -- however slight or well-intentioned -- is wrong, and would only strengthen this Neanderthal's resolve to watch Faux Snooze, listen to Limpballs and other AM-radio blowhards, and possibly whine on social media or other web sites about he was being persecuted. A well-placed hocker had to suffice.
In this same resort town, I walked deliberately past a souvenir store that was peddling "He won. Get over it!" stickers. This same coastal town lost 70 shrimp boats last summer during Hurricane Irma. If it wasn't for tourism, it'd be a ghost town by now. Leave that to sea-level rising.
What does it take to get the point across that they're on the wrong side of political/social/economic/meteorological events? (That's a rhetorical question -- I'd rather not tempt the fates more than I already have by posing that query).

I love the smell of fuming deps (deplorables) in the morning. Their melting snowflakes emit an aroma of utter, pathetic, cowardness thats beyond orange ice crystals on a rusty, cast iron skillet suspended over the devils campfire.
