Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI'm grinning an evil grin tonight! A small, but enjoyable victory for our side!
So I go to lunch today at a well-known fast-food joint near my work and order my lunch. It's very busy, and Fox Propaganda is showing on the television. So I put my food down at a table, and go up to ask the counter lady if she can change the station to, say, CNN. The poor harried lady steps away briefly, then comes back with the remote control and hands it to me. "See if you can find it," she says, then goes back to what she was doing.
The keys to the kingdom! I push the program guide button, find MSNBC, and select it. Then I realize that this is an opportunity that may never come again! I push the Menu button, find Settings, and there is the Mother Lode--Parental Control! I changed the Parental Control to On, then browse stations to lock out until I see Fox Propaganda and Fox Business. I lock out those two, then set the PIN code to 9897 (higher numbers usually take longer to find), Confirm, and exit. So now, not only can they NOT watch Fox Nooze, it doesn't even come up on the program guide! Then I took the remote back to the very nice lady, sat down, and enjoyed a nice Fox-less lunch over MSNBC!
Like I said, one small, sweet victory for truth!

(8,924 posts)purchasing a universal remote.
They cost as little as $5.
When I was working at Cymer here in San Diego, the cafeteria had 5 TV's all tuned
to Faux Noise. The person in charge of the TV's was a retired Navy officer.
The set top box was behind a locked cabinet door with a see through window.
I purchased a universal remote and decided to change the channel to CNN, MSNBC,
ESPN, local channels, ..., anything but Faux Noise.
When the retired Navy officer entered, he noticed it was not on Faux.
So he walked back to his office, grabbed the keys to the cabinet, opened, removed
the remote, and changed it back to Faux. Placed the remote back in the cabinet and
locked it. Then started walking out to put away the keys.
Just before exiting we changed the channel a second time. He notices and immediately
repeats the process of changing it back to Faux.
As he exited the cafeteria, we immediately changed it back.
When the retired Navy officer returned, you could see the frustration in his face.
It was really funny.
He then placed a cover over the window on the inside of the locked cabinet.
Obviously blocking the IR receiver.
But our universal remote had RF capability, so we continued surreptitiously changing
the channel when ever we went to lunch.
Co-workers who knew what was going on, would routinely stop by my desk and ask if
I was going to lunch in the cafeteria. If I wasn't, they'd ask for the remote. GLADLY!
So let's all start buying universal remotes and learn to program them with the TV/STB
you'll be changing. Then every you go to breakfast, lunch or dinner and you-know-what
is on, just change the channel and lock out Faux Noise.
I'm just picturing the guy's face.

(58,724 posts)Seems more productive to have a conversation as opposed to someone posting something and everything saying "Yay!" in response.
In this case, I do not agree with what the person did at all.
A harried worker let this person change the channel to what they wanted to watch, and this person then took it upon themselves to block another channel that other people might want to watch at some point.
This will no doubt make things difficult for the staff in the future - and I think it was pretty thoughtless.
I feel that is a pretty reasonable opinion to hold - and I don't think we should be encouraging this kind of behavior. In fact, it seems antithetical to what I would hope would be our core values of kindness and compassion for others.
Oberliner seems to point out problems with arguments that are as true as they can be infuriating. It's like he or she is that old scold hanging by the side of the road when you want to get on the bandwagon who says, "That's not really a witch; it's just an old woman nobody likes without any real witchy power."
So yeah. I like a wet blanket when it is used to put out a stupid fire.

(90,827 posts)The days of thinking their shenanigans are funny are long over. They cause tremendous damage. They dissemble. They lie. They spread The Stupid around like peanut butter on toast, only with negative nutrition.
If you want to "put out a stupid fire", take aim at FOX itself.
I detest fox news. I complain whenever I see it.
This does not mean that I am happy about making a harassed working woman's life harder. Her getting in trouble with her boss or customers because she trusted lastlib to just change the channel only and not block fox is something I think is GODAWFUL!
She thought he would do as he said. "'See if you can find it,' she says, then goes back to what she was doing."
I hate FOX news, but if you think hurting working people is the way to go... you're not winning any friends.

I would give the customer a quarter and tell them to go call someone who gives a $hit, but that's just me.

Actually I miss the Fox news as I don't have cable and never get to see/hear the crap that Hannity, Whaters endlessly put out. But it is clear someone has decided the Fox station isn't keeping abreast of the changing demographics in this area.

(2,120 posts)How are the demographics in Hudson changing? I grew up in Hudson in the 50's and 60's. I haven't been back since 1996 or so. What's changed?
Do they still make the famous pepperoni sandwiches that are only known in Hudson? There used to be a place called Johnny Ware's that made them, and the old Dairy Queen on Green Street.

(4,834 posts)Quite a few Hispanics doing construction and Bengallies: apparently previous button factory workers and their friends and families. The Burgerking employees are about 50% African Americans. Hudson is a Great place full of diversity, trying to make use off all the old houses and buildings. I'll look into the pepperoni sandwiches...not in tune enough to know if Johnny Ware's is still around. The Dairy queen turned into a laundry mat last fall. I'm there to work on my daughter's house... complete rebuild it turns out...much to my surprise...great retirement project!

(2,120 posts)at Rocky Porreca's Italian restaurant back in the 60's. He had a place off of third street.
I lived on State Street, 7th street and 8th street in the 50's, then moved out to West Taghkanic for my jr high and high school years. I still have a large clan left in Hudson and Germantown. My family ancestors settled there in 1710-1712 from the Palatine German immigration.
When I was growing up there was only one black family in town, the Irwin's. Mrs. Irwin was my first Cub Scout Den Mother. Not much diversity in those days. I didn't ever see or meet a person of Asian descent until I was in college.
Enjoy the area, it's beautiful and has a lot of history.

(811 posts)The creepers insist on FoxNews and many of them are weirdos who mumble to themselves. They just take up space and spend no money. If McDonalds wants millennial business, they need to ditch TVs as all the young folk have smart phones. There are old guys that drink coffee and meet for hours taking up space when their is no seating. As long as you known for that Mickey DS , you have no future.Quit being a propaganda tool for Fox. I read a dairy recently where a guy set his Fox watching parents tv to no Fox via parental controls. I hope this is a trend.

(58,785 posts)the deep south, those TVs showing news in public that are not tuned to Fox (by far most) are tuned to CNN. Never MSNBC. Don't know why, but I figure there's a reason and that the pattern's worth putting to good use.
