Carjacker can't start car, gets arrested
A Bay Terraces (San Diego) woman ran in fright from a carjacker who threatened to kill her Saturday, but without her key, he couldnt start the sedan.
He gave up and left, but police soon found the distinctive man with white paint spattered all over his face, beard and red T-shirt.
The 54-year-old woman had just returned home on Sunswept Street about 4:15 p.m. and was sitting in her Nissan Altima when the man approached her, San Diego police Officer Robert Heims said. The man had a rock in one hand and told her to get out of the car or he would kill her, the womans husband told OnSceneTV. He said his wife ran to the back of their house with the car key.
Unable to drive away, the man walked away. He made it a few blocks, near Goff Street and Bullock Drive, where officers caught up to him. The victim was able to identify the man as the one who tried to carjack her, Heims said. The 31-year-old man was taken into custody.
OnSceneTV video showed that police confiscated a wine bottle and a meth pipe when they arrested the man.
