Wow, did you see the Obama supporters at Java Joe's in Des Moines?

Chris Matthews was asking people who they were going to vote for and several said "Obama." It was a funny moment. Chris seemed surprised.

He did a "voice vote" on the Repub. candidates. Mitt Romney was the overwhelming choice.

Some very interesting and eloquent Dems speaking up when Chris gave them the opportunity to speak.

That was a real eye opener. I don't think we're supposed to believe that the "ordinary" Iowans are like THIS!!!

i can safely state that it's more "blue" than most probably believe. Iowa has a strong tradition of left leaning progressivism

I hope they have re-thought their strategy. They are broadcasting from this coffee shop and they should re-assess what they are dealing with.

I thought it was interesting that Dems would come to that coffee shop for Matthews' show in the first place. I would have figured that they would just stay away...

The Iowa judges that allowed gay marriage were defeated. Iowa now has a Republican governor and state legislature. Did Democrats just not show up?

most likely one group

Tweety had to go hunting for someone voting Republican.

I don't think that ordinary Iowans are like that. Des Moines is a larger city and odds are it is a more liberal group than out in the more rural areas.

And the repubs were ALL moderates! That just killed me!

Here we've been "set up" for the big Iowan "conservative" vote, being intoned in deep basso by Joey Scar and others about the Iowans, and we get THIS?

I guess they chose the wrong coffee house. In fact, maybe a coffee house isn't the place they really want to be. Maybe a diner right off the highway somewhere...if there is one...somewhere...

Remember, Michael Dukakis won Iowa in '88 and John Kerry in '04...no rushpublican has won the state since '84. The rushpublicans are a minority in the state...a loud one, but a minority nonetheless...especially in the bigger cities.

What we're seeing is a demolition derby among a fraction of the electorate. You'll also notice the rushpublicans Tweety did find considered themselves "moderate"...and many of those will be taking a pass on the caucuses. The caucus process tilts towards organizations and the ability to get your people in the same place at the same time. Passion matters...thus Frothy and the Paulbots will have a big night while Mittens won't. But when its all said and done, the state will show strongly for President Obama in November.

The focus was on Hillary vs. Obama vs. Edwards and IRC the Democratic caucus turnout was more than double that of the rushpublicans that Hucklenutz won. I'll be interested in the turnout numbers. Let's see if all the hype of the past months increase the rushpublican turnout from '08. Remember, this is the state of a great Progressive: Tom Harkin

Cheers...

We're not all evangelicals nor do we all share the same ideological radical craziness of a Steve King. We are educated and pay attention to national and international affairs.

Chris Matthews and a few others in media need to quit attending Georgetown and Manhattan cocktail parties and basing their assessment of conventional wisdom on what they hear from their fellow inebriated bloviators and the political operatives they suck up to.

what I've seen on TV about this is that there are the church going Iowans that are torn about the usual issues of abortion and gays. So they are selecting their candidate according to those guidelines. Michelle Bachmann should do well among them. Then there are the sensible Iowans who will probably go for Mitt Romney if they are Republicans and more likely Obama in the general election. Really, something has to be done to make the churches stay out of politics. They are ruining our country with the idiot candidates who are getting votes because they are catering to the bible thumpers.
