Trump's Lack of Familiarity with Government Is Showing

He's trying to behave in the same way he did in private life, where shady dealings go unnoticed most of the time. Nobody's really watching, and you can bluff or sue your way out of trouble. As President, he's under everyone's eyes all the time, and people are really, really interested in what he does.

Trump doesn't understand that kind of scrutiny. He thinks he can just go right on doing things under the table and behind closed doors. That's not possible, though, as President. It's driving him nuts right now. Stuff that used to be SOP for him is now viewed as unethical, at best, and criminal, at worst. He knows no other way of doing things, though.

So, he's in a tight spot, boys, to quote from a popular movie. He's surrounded by people who don't think his way of doing things is OK, and they're calling him on them. Frankly, there's no way at this point for him to change his ways, and he has no clue about what to do to extricate himself from all of this.

Trump is screwed! He can't change. The only things he knows to do are illegal and unethical. So, he'll just keep doing those things until he's forced to bail out or gets ridden out of the small town that is Washington, DC on a rail.

Sorry Donald. You're hosed!

However, he hasn't a clue about what he should do. He's just flailing away, but there's nothing to hit. He hires Giuliani, who immediately runs his mouth and makes things worse. He has to go talk to Kim Jong Un, but has no idea what's going on in the background over there and what trap might be set for him. He has nobody to advise him who knows anything about anything.

The situation he's in is one of his own making, but he doesn't even understand why things aren't working. His thought processes aren't working well, and people like Giuliani are not in much better shape, frankly. Comey's gone and can't be his bagman any longer. Everyone is either gone, under suspicion, or covering their own asses as best they can.

He's in deep, deep trouble, with no feasible solution in sight. Not a comfortable spot at all.

He has Fox News on 24-7, with today's storyline being that "nobody cares" about the Stormy Daniels stuff, or the Dr. Bornstein stuff, or the ethics stuff, or the graft stuff, or the self-dealing stuff. To listen to Fox, you'd think that every other news outlet in the country is publishing reports and filing stories on stuff that nobody cares about.

It's sure soothing for Trump to hear that, even if it's pure bullshit.

He can't help but know. Fox News can't shield him from everything. The walls are closing in on him. The risk is that he might do something totally outrageous as a distraction. There's nobody there to stop him, either.

Insomuch as Trump has any ability for introspection, he must certainly be regretting becoming the president. As you said, his entire life has been about using his family's wealth and connections to enrich himself through shady dealings and for the most part, even though he is famous, he was a very small fish in actual business. The Koch's, Mercers, Adelson, and other right wing actual billionaires who we as Progressive junkies, know about and oppose, have flown under everyone else's radar because they spread their money out through multiple organizations. Trump however, has lived his whole life off of self promotion. The problem with his situation now is that he is the head of the executive branch of the most powerful government on earth. When we sneeze, the world catches a cold, so the eyes of everyone are on him and he has NEVER been up to the task of being a leader.

He has never had a large organization which he has lead. It was always him, his fixers, and subcontractors who he readily screwed over. The problem is that to run a government that has to look out for the needs of 330 million people, you have to be smart enough to surround yourself with people who are competent and engender some loyalty.

The only thing that really concerns me about what the Trump administration is doing is that while he is incompetent and acting like a clown overall, people under his administration are quietly filling up the federal benches with horrible people like Neil Gorsuch or worse.

We cannot get rid of him and everyone he has brought with him fast enough.

with the investigation if he surrounded himself with people who would be willing to fall on their sword for him. Instead he surrounded himself with a bunch of grifters and charlatans. The party loyalists were pushed out and those are the people who would have protected him.

Hell they covered for Ronnie's Alzheimer's for years by closing the ranks.

there is an old saying in DC - if you want a friend in DC get a dog. Too bad Benedict Donald hates dogs more than he loves his son.
