Pence in Arizona hails Arpaio as ‘champion’ of ‘rule of law’
By Jacqueline Thomsen - 05/01/18 09:28 PM EDT

Vice President Pence praised former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who was convicted of contempt of court, as a “tireless champion of … the rule of law” during an event in Arizona on Tuesday.

Pence said at the tax event that he was “honored” by the former sheriff’s attendance, and called Arpaio a “great friend of this president and tireless champion of strong borders and the rule of law,” to cheers from the crowd.

President Trump last year pardoned Arpaio, a vocal supporter of his on the campaign trail, after he was convicted of contempt of court for refusing to stop racially profiling Hispanic people at traffic stops for immigration checks.

And accepting a presidential pardon legally counts as an admission of guilt.

And Arpaioa tried to have it reversed that he was found guilty, while the presidential pardon only covered that he wouldn't be sentenced to a punishment.

“Pence claims known criminal is champion of the rule of law”. Would be the headline.

There is nothing editorial or speculative about that sentence. It is just a basic fact. But the media won’t say that lest they dare come off as “biased”.
