Political talk radio doesn't translate well to liberals just as comedy doesn't translate to cons

Political talk radio does not translate well to liberals because nobody with an IQ above room temperature will tune into listen to someone whine for three hours a day five days a week, just as comedy doesn't not translate well to conservatives because you need an IQ above room temperature to get it.

Michelle Wolf did nothing other than Limbaugh and Hannity do every single day but it takes an IQ above room temperature to realize it's just comedy, where as Limbaugh and Hannity actually mean the insane ѕhit they say day in and day out ... and Trump has no problem praising them for it

I am the former producer of a progressive (politically) radio talk show for about four years in the NYC metro area. Drive time (7 to 9 a.m.) The host was a veteran from two other progressive talk shows on other stations.

We had an impressive amount of listeners.

We had regular guests whom the host would interview: both democratic and republican politicians, historical figures (Ted Sorensen), authors of contemporary non-fiction, entertainers (Carl Reiner), local interesting people. We even introduced the premiere of Real Housewives of NJ.

And of course, political critique of events. First a review of the facts and then the analysis and critique.

Out of 15 radio stations, our show was the first to break the story about Mark Sanford being missing from the Governor's Mansion.

We know we had listeners because they regularly called in. I was even surprised to be in front a judge who listened to our show and said it was "very good".

We had to leave the air because we couldn't get sufficient advertising revenue. Our success was ignored.

Of course, rightwingers would say it's because liberals don't work and don't have money... but that's because rightwingers are stupid. But seriously, from someone in the industry: why do you think your station had such problems?

I tried all I could imagine to sell time to LOCAL businesses, no syndicated commercials.

We were essentially the ONLY local show around and live to boot. Great ad time prices ($1500 a month with broadcast twice during the show Monday-Friday).

I went store to store and while we garnered some advertisers (mostly restaurants, one law firm, and a trumpet teacher), it just wasn't enough to keep us on the air.

Wingnut talk radio appeals to a very distinct demographic and as such certain products and services that appeal to that demographic can be marketed. Knowing your audience is at least half the battle when it comes to marketing.

Demographics: suburban and lower middle class, 20 mile radius from NYC, educated, good solid democratic block peppered throughout. And we got good representation age group-wise: young adults to the elderly, male and female.

And we were local. Nobody on the radio was doing local northern NJ esp. news items.

It should have worked and it may have, except the station didn't want to wait for the ad revenue to develop.

There was no other program remotely like ours, not even NPR.

They are all great talkers! It’s just that right wing media owns terrestrial radio. We had a highly rated progressive station here in SF with great ratings then they just abruptly took it off and put Glenn Beck on and the ratings went to nothing.
