Lie detector tests, which are not admissible in court because they are not sufficiently reliable, measure stress when you know you are lying. I don’t think Donnie is stressed by lying and he might not know they’re lies. If he says it, it must be true.

I think, at this point, he truly BELIEVES the lies he spouts are TRUE. At first, I'm sure he knew he was lying, but over time, as he repeated them over and over, the lies became HIS reality.
