Reuters: U.S. Attorney General Sessions says Mueller probe has taken on 'life of its own'

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Thursday defended his decision not to appoint a second special prosecutor to investigate Republicans’ concerns about the FBI by noting that Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe had already taken on “a life of its own.”

Speaking to a U.S. House appropriations panel during a routine budget hearing, Sessions told lawmakers that the Justice Department needed to “be disciplined and stay within our classical procedure and rules” before rushing to hire more special counsels.

“I do not think we need to willy-nilly appoint special counsels,” he said, after listening to a laundry list of frustrations aired by West Virginia Republican Congressman Evan Jenkins.

On Thursday, Sessions staunchly defended the FBI, calling its director, Christopher Wray a “man of integrity,” and warned lawmakers not to “smear everybody” at the department.

I can't see anybody being truly loyal to Trump, just intimidated and scared by him.

to know how to operate it efficiently. It's what I tell Repubs and especially Libertarians all the time. I won't vote for anyone whose stated purpose is to destroy the government. Somehow, it just doesn't make sense to me.

investigating anything that somehow included Clinton's name in it. Like he really was appointed to look into Bill Clinton's relationship with an intern. Right.

On the one hand, it sounds like Sessions is on the side of the angels: He's not going to appoint a special counsel to investigate the special counsel. Yay, I guess. On the other hand, what does he mean when he says that Mueller's Russia probe has taken on a life of its own? Sessions is supposed to be recused from that, so how would he know what Mueller's up to or not up to? Is he just taking a jab at Mueller to mollify his stupid boss? But as sure as shootin', his uninformed and possibly illegal comment about Mueller is what grabs the headline, and you can bet you're going to hear it from Needy Amin in the days, weeks, months and endless years to come.

So thanks for that, Jefferson Beauregard. Maybe you should take advantage of the opportunity to shut up more in the future.

Sooner or later he'll have to testify against Cheeto. I think Sessions is getting digs in while he still can.

with the Russians. He appears to have gotten away with perjury during his Senate Hearings, although I'm hoping beyond hope that secretly, someone is investigating his lies as well.
