The main systemic force in this country that increases racism is:
The Republican Party.
If we want to improve racism in America, the first thing we must do is vote Republicans out of office. The Republicans are run by their billionaire donors, who have created a propaganda machine that intentionally AMPLIFIES RACISM to get votes for billionaires.

Trumps shithole moment was years in the making.

Trump did not reach this shithole moment on his own. He had plenty of help from Republicans and conservatives along the way. His racist comment is much more than the latest reminder of his dark soul; it is a reflection of the values (or lack thereof) of a party and movement that has accepted Trump and elevated him to its highest rank.
Anytime you are feeling upset about racism in America, remember -- racism is amplified by the GOP to chase power. The BEST thing we can do to put everyone on an equal footing, to give everyone a fair shake in life, to improve harmony and tolerance in America -- the best thing we can do is vote straight Dem.
The GOP since the Southern Strategy and Reagan's Neshoba County speech have amplified racism to get votes. Today GOP propagandists - Limbaugh, Fox, Breitbart, Reason and others - all amplify racial division.
The best way to pursue racial harmony in America is to vote Dem. And get out the vote.

All while bashing the "liberal media," which has worked like a charm (the mainstream media promotes false equivalencies and has become too afraid to identify facts as facts and falsehoods as falsehoods). Republicans have been suffering a lot of losses since Trump took office, because Trump (who is just a symptom of the aforementioned playbook) is such an extremely dangerous and outlandish individual. But, make no mistake, that Republican strategy has paid many dividends. And it's all they've got.
Absent that strategy, the GOP would go extinct. Absent racism alone, the GOP would go extinct. Support for right wing economics, right wing environmental policy and right wing foreign policy would be minimal. Those who bemoan people "voting against their economic interests" need to understand that those folks are voting *for* their (perceived) cultural/social interests. Alter the latter and you put an end to the former. The struggle to combat racism and sexism (structural/institutional and individual) is vital. Those who attack "identity politics" are severely misguided.

(6,916 posts)That's why it's so important for Dems to dwell on systematic Republican exploitation of racism. It's their underbelly. And it's the reason why Republicans are trying to pin racism on Dems. They know if too many Americans realize that the GOP is the party of racism, the party is done for.
