West Virginia GOP Candidate Attacks Mitch McConnell's Wife, Calls Her Father 'A Wealthy Chinaperson'

West Virginia GOP Candidate Attacks Mitch McConnell's Wife, Calls Her Father 'A Wealthy Chinaperson'
JOSH BILLINSON | APR 25, 2018 | 8:53 AM

Just months after the Roy Moore debacle in Alabama cost Republicans a Senate seat, the GOP has found another Republican candidate it would like to keep out of the United States Senate.

Fresh off a stint in federal prison for his role in a mining disaster that left 29 people dead, Don Blankenship would like to be the next senator from West Virginia. He's been an enemy of establishment Republicans since he first launched his candidacy in November, but recent comments put him squarely at odds with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

During a recent radio appearance, Blankenship questioned whether the ethnicity of McConnell's wife, Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, could constitute a conflict of interest. Blankenship suggested that Chao's father is “a wealthy Chinaperson,” The New York Times reported.

Blankenship's choice of words is a gender-neutral spin on “Chinaman,” a once-common term for people of Chinese origin. Today, the term is considered dated and offensive after it found common use as a slur.

he wasn't quite sure if the term was just regular offensive or like ... full blown n-word offensive.

So he decided to go with "Chinaperson" instead.

The gender role sensitivity training stuck with him but the racial sensitivity was just too much to comprehend.

I'm no fan. But I'll give credit where it's due and Yertle is very damn good at being a very nasty advarsary. If there's a faster way to end this dumb fuckers run for senate, I can't really think of one.

Like being the most corrupt person to ever head the senate. A perverter of established rules and an enabler of a Russian dictator. But let’s attack his wife’s dad’s ethnicity.
