It was extremely brutal, however my daughter finished the race! The temp was the highest ever recorded for a marathon in London....no global warming, yea right!
Here she is with her coveted medal!

(51,630 posts)and that Europe is having a heat wave. What was the temp?
Heartstrings
(7,349 posts)Trying to get the accurate temp...had to be in the high 90s Im guessing.
BigmanPigman
(51,630 posts)It doesn't seem that hot to me though. 23.2 C is 73.6 F. That seems kind of nice actually.
Heartstrings
(7,349 posts)Will need to verify because that seems like a perfect running temp....I'll let you know what she comes back with, once she's fed and hydrated....lol

(51,630 posts)The 2018 London Marathon is officially the hottest on record.
Runners were forced to deal with sweltering temperatures in the capital on Sunday with the Met Office confirming a high of 23.2C, a record high for the event.
Thousands of elite and amateur runners braved the challenging conditions with race organisers briefing earlier in the week prior to the race of what to expect.
Competitors were advised to drop their goal-times and more ice, water and run-through shower stations added along the 26.2-mile course.

(7,349 posts)The commentators didn't help by exaggerating it...."there's going to be more carnage" after a couple of elites hit the sidelines for iv fluids. Geesh!
When my daughter ran the LA Marathon a few years ago it was 98 degrees and she was able to run the entire race. This one, she walked a fair amount.....humidity maybe?
triron
(22,022 posts)I get quite sweaty just jogging several miles at 65 F in a very dry climate.
Heartstrings
(7,349 posts)no breeze either. She was sweltering during mile 1 and noticed the humidity as soon as she left Heathrow on a Thursday. Just glad it's over! They're always nerve wracking for a parent but, being out of the country, this one was particularly concerning.

Heartstrings
(7,349 posts)This was 5th and most brutal. She said the Brit crowds were amazing! Good luck to your daughter!
ChubbyStar
(3,191 posts)It took me four tries to set that record, I'm cheering for her to best it!
Heartstrings
(7,349 posts)Not today! Did you lose any toenails?
ChubbyStar
(3,191 posts)Mommy daughter running competition. Yes, I lost toenails. Running a distance that long with a temp over 60 is brutal, 73 is fine for a walk in the park...not running a marathon.
Heartstrings
(7,349 posts)I'm cheering both mommy and daughter on! What a bonding experience!
What marathon are they running? Keep us posted....

(3,191 posts)It is so cool how you can follow your runner through texts, just enter your runners bib number and they will track their progress and send updates. I love it. You are in Michigan?
Heartstrings
(7,349 posts)and was with her in LA and Chicago (her 1st full was Napa Valley). I forgot to install the app for this race, and couldn't once it had started.
I'm in Wisconsin....
ChubbyStar
(3,191 posts)I've run it four times. Beautiful run, it is where I ran my 3:17 personal record. My daughter is a graduate of University of Madison-Wisconsin. Go Badgers.

(7,968 posts)I've run two marathons (California International and Detroit) but now have a bad hip. Won't run another unless there is relief from stem cell therapy.
Heartstrings
(7,349 posts)Sorry to hear about your hip, hoping for relief for you!
Did you run the LA marathon?
jimlup
(7,968 posts)Yeah the hip is an interesting case. I'm going to try stem cell therapy and hoping it gets at least some of my running back. I've transitioned to cycling and that is going well. My endurance running background helps me with cycling endurance.
No, I ran the California International which is in Sacramento. It was suppose to be a fast course and I was hoping to break 3:30. but the weather was incredibly bad.... made 3:45 though.
Heartstrings
(7,349 posts)And 3:45 is a time to be proud of!
