Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDo hotels in Europe provide washcloths? In Paris a few years ago, ours didn't.
This wasn't a French version of Motel 6 either; it was in the area of the Sorbonne.
Is this a thing in Europe? More to the point, do the hotels in the UK provide washcloths for guests?

(15,810 posts)But mostly miss. But we could occasionally call up to the front desk to obtain them.

(27,813 posts)What I mostly remember was that they were clean, but they were a little threadbare and didn't match! (Our hotel was fine, but very much a budget place).

(19,960 posts)encountered that. I was actually in Biarritz last week and as usual there was a hand towel and bath towel each.
Did you ask reception for towels ?

(101,321 posts)I wash my face with my hands, and then dry it with the towel I use for everything else.

(2,857 posts)I like a good rough wash cloth to scrub away dead skin cells. I feel dirty without it.

(1,332 posts)I always buy some of the cheap white ones when I travel overseas and then just leave them when I leave. The last time I was in Greece
(can't wait to go back) they didn't have shower curtains in the shower and there was only a frame of about two inches high. Water all over the place. Someone said they though thought it was cultural and I remember thinking, (this was quite awhile ago) you've got a fax machine in the office but a shower curtain in "cultural"? As I said it
was back in the 90's. I have to say we stayed at a 5 star american
style hotel in Istanbul-were advised to do so by travel agent-and it was first class and not too much.

(63,912 posts)I just lathered up with soap by hand and let it roll.
I did mind the heavily scented soap. Man, that would knock you out and I was allergic as hell to it. I am used to Dove Unscented and the Italians, in particular, loved their heavily scented soap. So I traveled with a bar of Dove in my little plastic travel soap holder.

(130,964 posts)just realized, this morning, Saturday was my/our wedding anniversary! Got my tour guide out, which contains our itinerary.
So 34 years ago yesterday, we flew to Rome, 'tomorrow' rented car and headed around Italy, first stop after hotel in Rome (which Dad found for us,) headed to Hotel Caruso Belvedere in Ravello.
Buon viaggio!!!

(21,157 posts)Face towels were thin towels the size of our hand towels. Never found any smaller towels in the 4 hotels I stayed at.

(8 posts)Every hotel in the world provides towels. Yes, even European ones.

(90,714 posts)...in advance, and brought a stack of cheap washcloths for us to use and discard at each stop. It was smart. While I seldom use them at home, I find them handy on occasion and it's annoying not to have one.

(11,949 posts)But a German friend finds them silly. His question; do you use one when you wash your hands? I still do not have a good answer.
And most showers there have heads on a hose to reach those more, uuhhmm, remote areas.
I use to take one with me. But now take only a carry on bag and every inch and ounce matters.
Just go with the flow.

(4,492 posts)I use them for my face. Especially helpful for taking off makeup.
If I ever travel to Europe (I have yet to go abroad-- don't have a passport) I feel I'd need to bring them (or makeup remover wipes) and a top sheet.
