I don't think it's quite a religious cult like the Moonies or Jim Jones' cult, although it has some of the same characteristics. It's more of a cult of personality with religious overtones, all driven by politics and the desire for power. Trump himself seldom talks about religion or God; he leaves that to the fundie preachers who make money off their evangelical megachurches, which would benefit from Trump policies.
